Visting my brother today and hes asked me to look at his DC50. The brushroll is rotating for about a minute and then stopping. Ive taken the brushroll off and the bearing is really hot to the touch and very stiff and seized.

Having noticed that the black brushes are also worn down to nothing, as if they have been cut off and the red ones are not much better. Not very good for a machine that is only used in a small bungalow with a mixture of wooden floor, lino and low pile carpeting.

He did mention though that when they clean the hard floors and kitchen lino they never turn the brush roll off. Ive told him that this may have been the cause of the bristles wearing down.

See attached pic.

They normally happen because of hair and stuff being wrapped round the brushbar. I wouldn't say using a brushbar on a hard floor will hurt the bristles, it does well and that's what carbon fibre is for

this was a fault with the first generation of dc50 but they updated it if you called they will send you the new updated part.

How do you mean a fault with first generation? You mean the bristles wearing down or the seizing up? Yes they are sending a new head out.
