This is the filter wash indicator out of my Constant Max.

There is a small diaphragm which moves an arm attached to the red and silver ball.

It is not activated when the end of the hose is covered as the suction release valve cuts in.

I blocked the suction release valve and still it didn't change colour.

When I got the lime green DC04 it had a blocked filter and when switched on the ball does change to red. I imagine there would have to be quite a drop in suction for the was indicator to be activated.

Hey Matthew,

Thanks for that. Now I will sleep better tonight 😜

I wonder if the average user would pay attention if it was on a conventional machine?

Filter care...

I'm not sure of the application to mainstream vacs. Personally I wash a dyson filter as soon as there is the finest dust layer really. That way you always get the best suction. Apart from Dyson,,, the second dirtiest filters I see are Miele and in my opinion that is a huge irony as they give spare filters with every pack of bags. You think it would be more of an incentive to change when regularly provided.
