Electrolux Twin Turbo 517

I know, it really impresses me how quiet and light it is, and it feels more rugged than the 560. I thought the quietness was a 500 series thing though, not just a twin turbo thing, but videos of other 500 series machines seem a lot noisier (as is the 560, though I don't know how much wear has to do with it)

I would definitely not say no to another 517 if I could find one, but I get the impression they are a bit rare.

Here's a nice shot of the 517 and my Hoover Junior, which I replaced the motor on recently and is now very quiet for a Junior.

The noise of these cleaners is variable. As the roller brushes wear down, so the noise from the roller becomes quieter. But then as the cleaner ages, dust and debris collects on the fans and in the air baffles, which can increase noise. And the rollers too are prone to wear from the spindles coming loose and the bearings wearing out. That too increases noise levels.

502S Electronic

Well, I couldn't let the electronic motor control gear and that neat neon power switch go to waste, could I?

So here is the first 502SE (the E is for electronic ;)) with electronic motor control and 550 watts.

The 502 came from a very rude and not exactly honest ebay seller who had the nerve to tell me the motor was in good condition. I'll post some photos of how it arrived and the (siezed, rusty) motor in a subsequent post.

Rather than getting wound up over another bad 500 series machine I couldn't send back, I resolved to turn 2 bad ones into one good one. Thus we have this marvellous hybrid with the sleek hood of a 502s and the electronics out of a 560.

Unfortunately, it still needs a new motor as the 560's motor spindle is very worn down and I don't really trust it not to cut the plastic to bits with the belt as it did in the 560. I have slung a belt on it today just to see how it fares, and no screeching noise from it yet so I'll keep it in this configuration until I can find a cheap contour to borrow a motor from.
