Daily Vacuuming Results

I thought people might like my new daily results topic. I vacuum each day in the house. I pick a new room each time, vacuum it, then immediately go over it with a bagless vacuum to see what the regular machine missed. Feel free to do the same and post on it. The results are interesting. I will always go over it with my Eureka Quick-Up.
Vacuum for Today: Kenmore Progressive 300

Wow, that's alot of dirt for the KM to miss. Are you sure it's working correctly?

It should be. The belt is a bit old, but i havnt had time to change that yet.

If that is a stretch belt, then it really needs to be changed.

The Kenmore and any other vacuum should beat the pants off that lightweight Eureka Quick Up stick vacuum. The air flow is very limited and the bristles on brush roll are long but soft as thread and spin slow compared to regular market bagless vacuums.

ALL vacuums leave dirt behind and whichever vacuum goes second will always pick up that the first left behind. You could keep vacuuming a carpet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with different machines and still keep getting dirt out.

That's not ALWAYS the case Chris. When I vacuum my living room with my Kirby Sentria and then immediately follow behind with my Hoover WindTunnel Air which I completely washed out the bin and filter with soap and water the night before, I find only a few, maybe a dozen small grains of sand or grit in the bin.

Stan, given the Kirby's exceptional carpet performance, that's to be expected. But if you went over with the Kirby again, you'll still get out more dirt that the first pass with the Kirby and then the Windtunnel left behind, and then again with Windtunnel etc. You could go on vacuuming forever really

Amazing! it's almost like the same pile of smutz that came up on the first test. I think you're living over a ancient burial ground...

This is the first mistake a lot of people make with owning a bagged and a separate bag-less vacuum - cooing over what the bagged machine misses just because you can see and capture what the bag less vacuum picks up.

I’m not convinced because I also own a bagless vac and a bagged vacuum. Just because you can't see the dirt in the bag doesn't mean it isn't there. Particularly high filtration dust bags where dust goes behind the layers of the bag's design to absorb and remain naked to the eye.

I agree with what Chris says but also for the fact that you can keep convincing yourself that your carpet is clean when in reality it actually isn't. Airborne dust and dirt flies around and due to the science of gravity means it ends up in the carpet again.

Same kind of result will be found when using a bagless vacuum first and then another bagless vacuum afterwards, or even just a mechanical sweeper - there will always be dirt or dust due to what is in the air.

I also agree with Chris

Two things I remember learning from my experience in a vac repair shop:

1.) Carpets and rugs are perpetually attracting dirt and dust.

2.) It's impossible to vacuum up every single bit of debris from carpets and rugs.

The 2nd was explained to me as a vacuum salesman's best kept secret. One can vacuum the exact same spot over and over again and still pull up dust and debris from the carpet.

Thank you Chris and Nar. You have given me a different perspective that I overlooked and it is hard to disagree with. I do agree that dust and very fine particles could be floating around after vacuuming and then resettle onto the carpet.

I know its impossible to get everything out of the carpet, but i enjoy seeing what the Eureka picks up afterwards, and it looks like other people do too!

If you want a shocker, get yourself one of these. I buy one of these every couple of years. It shocks me every time I switch it on in rooms with carpets and when the "clear" water gets cloudy with dirt and dust. The kitchen is where mine is located now since my old cooker hood broke. So much cheaper, less noisy and uses less power.
