D4 fan assembly

These things just don’t like to come apart! Any trick to getting the fan blades out?

Hey

Don't quote me if I'm wrong. On opposite side of motor is a shaft. I believe you hold the shaft in place. Either that fan after small torque they come off.
Don't quote me but I'm pretty sure that's how it's done.

Yes.The difficult ones need just enough heat from a small torch to expand the spacer.Lubricant can help.When a Rainbow is in this condition from lack of proper care(clean separator,don't store on pan,etc)and no periodic service you will probably find the holes in fans have become oval shaped and must be replaced.
Good luck.In many ways this is one of the best Rainbows ever.

Well after much coercion the spacers finally gave up and I got the thing apart. Now to order parts and wait for the post!

Just an FYI
The most commonly used tools on a rainbow service persons bench are a torch, vice, vice grips hammer and press.

Rexair is starting to discontinue a lot of the D4/ SE parts due to the new rainbow coming out so with that being said the lower baffle assembly (lower fan housing) has been discontinued as well as the upper portion of the fan housing, sub assemblies are going to be discontinued if they haven’t been already and other parts are already on the list as well as some e series one speed parts as well.

You might want to apply some anti seize grease to the shaft where those spacers go, upon reassembly. Maybe prevent that happening in the future.

Thank you Electroluxxxx for the offer with parts, I did already have an order placed. If you are able to source parts for a D2 I would take the assistance when I get around to rebuilding it though! For my D4 I ordered the flange, flange gasket, flange screws, the three bearings, and new fan spacers. As much trouble as this one has given me I’m sure the D2 is going to be even more difficult. I know one of the bearings is completely seized and most of the flange screws are going to have to be drilled out.

Tore into the power nozzle tonight. Unlike the power unit this was a marvel of simplicity to take apart. Had a couple of interesting surprises in it, mainly enough fluff to knit a sweater and Kirby belt.

Well the deed is done finally. I am really quite surprised at the difference my D3 and this. They made a lot of updates and it’s a really nice machine to, especially now with brand new bearings! Now to keep my eyes out for a 2 speed E series on the cheap!
