How do these perform? I thought about replacing the beater-bar on my Encore LE with one of these.

i personally hated it. on the older lower amp motors, they bog down the machine too much and don't agitate the carpet as well. my first convertible had one, and within a week was hunting a vintage one down on ebay.

However, the CWP brushroll works well with the newer plastic based convertibles. It's not recommended for use in the first generation Hoover Convertible motors as Will stated above. This subject has been discussed in the past. Tyler you can search for CWP and read some previous discussions with a lot more information than I can provide.

WARNING!! HAZARDOUS PRODUCT!!
I have a 4.3 Amp Hoover Convertible Elite. The machine is a 2 speed with 4.7 Amp in attachment mode. I also have a 4.8 Amp, same amperage in both modes. Both of my machines are running Genuine Hoover 49258 Convertible belts. One belt is about 4 months old and the other is less than 1 month old.
The 4.3 Amp Convertible Elite had signmificant air flow loss and motor struggle sound.
The 4.8 Amp Convertible only after about 2 (TWO) Minutes of use had the belt close to melting point of getting sticky to my hands, and motor pulley. Extremely over heated motor pulley. With Genuine Hoover brush roll I run the height settings at the "Normal" carpet setting on this 4 height setting 4.8 Amp machine. I raised the height to the "High" carpet setting for the CWP to lessen the struggle. Carpet still groomed ok but belt smell and motor struggle did not change.
Neither machine sounded proper, there's was a struggle to the motors. Terrible burning rubber smell emitted from both machines after just a couple of minutes. Over heated motor pulleys.
Upon immediately switching over to a genuine, despite beat up Hoover brush roll with beater bars, the machines cooled down and burning rubber smell dissipated.
With this experience that I had tonight, the CWP brush roll is no longer allowed in either of my Convertibles!!

The brush roll on the left with no beater bars turns smooth but bearings in it aren't great. Both of these brush rolls perform MUCH BETTER and have machines running MUCH SMOOTHER than the brand new CWP that I was trying to upgrade to. I was looking to replace the single brush, non beater bar brush roll on left as bearings and bristles themselves aren't great.
Shame as the CWP does groom nice.

I just ordered three of these last month . . .
. . . and I am happy with them. I ordered them on eBay for $13.50 and installed them on three different convertibles, including a mid-70's metal based Convertible with a high-performance 4.7 amp motor and two 1980's plastic Convertibles. They do put some additional strain on the motors, but they do not affect suction and cleaning performance. The carpet is groomed nicely, with much the same "triple-action agitation marks" as an older Convertible might produce (the later Convertibles did not leave such pronounced carpet marks as did the older ones).
However, I also would not recommend these brushrolls for an older Convertible with the first generation two speed motor since it runs at a lower speed on floor mode. In addition, models such as the U4001, U4003, U4005, U4007, U4009, U4047 and likewise are single speed and run on 420 watts only.

Very interesting. I'm glad you've had a positive experience with them HooverU4089. i had definite decreased airflow from both of my machines. Melted belt and overheated motor pulley on both. We're talking only after about 2 minutes of use. Loss of brushed cleaning by about 3/4". The edge cleaning is now completely awful. Motors sound awful running brush roll, especially the Convertible Elite with 4.3 Amp motor. Really sounds like it's struggling.
My belts are Genuine Hoover 49258 and are in great shape. I tried raising height all the way up to Shag Level which didn't clean anything at all and lowering back down. Even at Shag the machines still didn't sound good.
My carpet is a Medium density, medium pile. It's a rental townhouse, so it's nothing super fancy. I've used about 20 different vacuums here including these Convertibles and with the Genuine Hoover brush roll, I've had no issues with any machine here!!

WHAT if your (Durango159)'s Convertibles are in need of new carbon brushes? I have an elder Metal base U4047 and it ran GREAT without the brush, but even with a fully free and moving original HOOVER brushroll, The cleaner slowed to barely a crawl!
I was advised to check the brushes, But have not got into that. My Eureka did the same thing about the brush slowing, I need to learn how to replace brushes! I've heard it's fairly simple, I'll have to order a commuter stone, But I'm likely to get my heart racing from the flying sparks! I've got Three projects backed up (The convertible, the Eureka, And a secret HOOVER surprise)!
Over Carbon Brushes. Anyhow, I'd recommend checking the carbon brushes, and ensure the motor can spin VERY freely, and resistance is not a good thing! you should see the RPM's on a freshly lubed cleaner (You've likely have, though)!

My carbons on both machines look fantastic!!
Both machines have had motors serviced, fans cleaned and otherwise in great shape. Carbon brushes have lots of life left. With Genuine Hoover brush rolls, these machines sound FANTASTIC!! Lots of airflow, gorgeously grooming and not the slightest hint of motor struggle with the normal brush rolls!!
I do appreciate the thoughts, that was an excellent theory for checking the carbon brushes. I wish there was a better explanation for this, like if my CWP roller was a lemon? The CWP roller does rotate very smooth, silent and freely with no resistance on it.

Another idea would be to use an older, stretched Hoover belt when first using the new brushroll. If you have seen a video of a Convertible of this era running for the first time out of the box (of course, new brushroll and belt), you will notice that the motor runs quite slow initially and takes some time before reaching full speed. This is because the brushroll needs to "break in." The new cleaners begin to run at a faster speed after several uses and, at the same time, the first belt stretches very quickly.
I am running well-used, stretched belts with my CWP brushrolls, and the motors are beginning to run at a more reasonable speed. They still ran quite slow at first.
