And also ...

... our changing times.

DTD simply doesn't work in 2013 given today's security worries, and the fact that not only do we no longer have a large middle class, but we no longer have a significant segment of *someone* at home during the day to entertain in-home demonstrations. Peoples' time is at an extreme premium, and even if the salesman were to be open to doing evening demos -- given today's hectic work/school/activity/housework catch-up schedules -- the time simply isn't there for most households anymore.

And Dave ...

... believe it or not, even in NYC, there aren't a whole lot of specialty store options for vacuums.

Offhand -- aside from the Aerus dealerships -- I can think of THREE vacuum stores in all five boroughs: one in Manhattan, one in Brooklyn, and one in the Bronx.

And that's for 8.6 million people!

NYC - that only reinforces my point: if it's not available in a place like NYC - a city that would have just about anything in terms of specialization - it's not available much of anywhere. Your points about security and time are also well founded - again, DTD is wayyyyyy behind the times for many reasons.

I could sell Aerus vacs very easily in a retail environment. I would love to sell them in a well run/visible store. I can sell anything I believe in. But DTD - that doesn't fly....too much time wasted - and a visceral reaction due to the reasons we've talked about. I don't like cold calls coming here, so I sure wouldn't want to cold call others. Do unto others as you would want others to do unto you, and such.
