Yea, it'd expect something more for that $

eBay & Craigs & auction folks want to make $. I've no problem with making $ off flipping a garage sale find. Yea I understand they drive around all day looking and this is their income. But they gotta offer me as the buyer something for the extra $ -- clean it up, free / easy shipping, or better yet _restore_ the machine!

Otherwise, they should know we can find these machines in the same condition at local Habitat 4 Humanity, and will spend our $ for a better cause (aka. building someone's home).

A quick search on craigslist locally shows 10 Kirby vacuum cleaners for sale.  They range from FREE (the seller says it needs a new belt) to $125.  Many have all the attachments included.

Santronic

wow, that Santronic price is just :O

There's fans of that vintage Kirby, like me :). It's one of the last models before Kirby's front beater bar got huge (with the Tradition if I remember right, which I don't use my Tradition because it's just too dang huge.) But that is still insane with no restoration, cleaning, or attachments.

Seller must be going with the hold & wait approach.

The $250.00 one MIGHT be worth that IF it had its original bag in good condition. Sadly, many 500 series Kirbys were bastardized by mom & pop vac shops as well as Kirby themselves with their rebuild program. Forget about finding a 2C or an R series at a fair price on eBay. That ship sailed a long time ago....

I don't think it will sell

I've seen this Kirby 505 up for sale before. It didn't sell then, and I don't think it will sell this time. It looks great at first glance, but when you look closely it has a number of issues. I'm not sure what they mean by "tight and right". The wheels, wheel screws, and washers are not Kirby parts.

My friend Adam is really a Kirby expert. He has been a tremendous help to me with the little details of my Kirby collection. Not only does Adam help keep my machines polished all the time, he finds me little obscure things like the hang tags for the cloth bags. All of my Kirby‘s have been rebuilt on the inside and restored/buffed on the outside. Hopefully they’ll sell easily after I’m dead. I can’t even begin to fathom what the auction is going to be like for all the more than 600 vacuums in my collection.

If other deceased collectors' collections are any guide, what will happen is that someone will "help themselves" to the nicest or rarest machines, then the rest of them will be taken out for the trash collector.

Charles not to hijack here............

But, I too wonder what will happen to my vacuums after I am gone. I hope it will not be what you said. I have helped find homes for the vacuums of Terry Lattz and Stan Hagan after they died. Maybe someone will do the same for me.

My husband has no idea what to do and I have given him suggestions. So many of us older collectors are at that point in life where we are reducing our collections but still want to keep the vacuums that are near and dear to us.

I've told my husband to call Tania and she will know what to do. I think my big concern is that our younger members/collectors will have no interest in the vacuums of the 1930s/1940s/1950s/etc. But, if I'm no longer here I guess I won't have to worry!

Charles (Lester).. I agree

I DO have several machines "earmarked" for several people. I also have very specific instructions for my survivors. Tom Anderson will get a call. He'll know exactly what to do, how to do it, to help my niece and nephew
.

But, as we know. there will be some with their hands out. Before my burial (remains in a C bag, then, in an urn.... people will be wondering about certain items.

Also, about 200+ items were unable to be displayed at the convention.
