Florida started opening at the beginning of the month. Non-essential retail and dine in restaurants have been open at 25% capacity for a few weeks now. Gyms reopened a week or so ago. Movie theaters still closed.

Most department and clothing stores in my area have reopened, JCPenney still closed. Most thrift stores have been open a few weeks except the Restore. That's because they decided to do a renovation since they were already closed. Supposed to reopen in June. The flea market has been open a few weeks too now.

I think things in FL were handled pretty well, but my biggest issue is they didn't wait for a 14 day decline in new cases as per the CDC. The cases had kind of flattened out but it's been like a mountain with peaks and valleys. If you cut the peaks off and dropped them into the valleys it would have been flat for about a month. They are finally getting on the downward trend last I looked, and this almost a month into reopening. Although I think all of the numbers in any place have a certain amount of error in them.

Personally I think some states have opened too early, some are waiting too long. Opening too early is an issue but we can't stay shut down for 6 months to a year. You can't run society that way.

I stayed home for two months other than work. Then a few times I went to the Dollar General near my house to get any items I needed since there are fewer people there.

Now, I've started going out again. Last weekend I went to the flea market, a few thrift stores, and Home Depot. Had a mask on everywhere I went and kept distance.

Last Friday I stopped at Publix. I've been to Goodwill a couple of times too. Still have not been back to Walmart and plan to stay away for a while yet.
 
Although, I did want to clarify. I don't think we should not be cautious. If one is vulnerable, I think it's still best to stay home. Even so, I still won't likely be going out as often as I was before this, and I'm still keeping distance and washing my hands. I'm not quite as concerned about this as I was before, but we still have to be vigilant about it.
 
North Carolina is relaxing restrictions somewhat. Restaurants are allowed to open for dine-in service and some other previously non-essential businesses are reopening, albeit at reduced occupancy numbers, all this while the infection rate continues to climb.

The college where I teach is offering most of its summer classes, including mine, online only but plans to resume face-to-face instruction in the fall under a very strange arrangement wherein classes would be split and students would alternate class days so that half the students in a class would attend one day and the other half would attend virtually via Teams. The two groups would then switch for the next class session. I see this as an absolute logistical nightmare. So far, there is no word whether faculty with underlying health conditions, such as myself, will be afforded the opportunity to continue teaching strictly online. I sincerely hope they will come to their senses on that score.
 
Ohio is starting to open up. Some churches, mine is not,.  Resturants with seating 6 ft apart,  I am still


mostly doing take outs.....I did go to Old Hickory BBQ in Dayton, my favorite resturant of all times,


they have a house salad with garlic dressing that is the best ever. They even sell the dressing by the pint.....


 


Other than going their, which they did the social distancing, I am still just doing take outs.......


 


Ohio was one of the first to shut down and I am thankful for it, so it surprised me that we have started


to open back up. The Episcopal Church's are waiting for the Bishops to decide when we will all


open up......


 


Taking lots of long walks to keep from going stir crazy.......

Henny Penny has moved on from SC and we are opening back up. Somehow, I’ve managed to survive working every day, still going out in public to shop/grocery store/etc. Our death rate in the state is still .003% and hardly any reason to shut down the entire state. This panic-demic has had a very positive effect on sales at both stores. May was our busiest month in the 11 years I’ve owned the business.
 
Our county has been open for three weeks. I work every day. No one comes in with a mask. Except one very old lady. They are laying off hospital workers because they just don't have enough patients. I'm lucky the college here in town has kept all their cleaning people, in fact, they bought 10 new "HEPA" vacuums to replace the old rice car super lites I sold them several years ago. Even the highway patrol, with the bunker in town, replaced their vacuum with a new one. In March and April, people called and made an appointment. I was still open 3 days per week. In May I had too many calls for an appointment, so I opened back up after the first week, as soon as we could. It's been hella busy ever since. I don't think I've ever sold so many bags. Or fixed so many Kirbys (which is good).
 
We had meetings this morning

about a "re-entry phase at the college. It will still be little while.
Stores are beginning to open... WITH the "proviso" that all still wear masks, etc.
No shopper is allowed to enter ANY supermarket here, w/o a mask. People are careful, not stupid or reckless.
Everyone wants things to go back to normal. It can happen. PA's numbers of cases are going down, rapidly.
Simply put: Be responsible, careful. But, don't be reckless or stupid... but not live in fear.
 
Michigan is opening up this week. We reopened for take out last week and it was really successful. Dine in is opening tomorrow. My restaurant is opening back up for dine in Friday. We reopened for take out this past week and everything went over really well.

I'm going to load up my car and take all my pop cans band bottles back next weekend. I think I have about $20.00 or $30.00 worth of returns. LOL. I was able to get a black market haircut last week which was amazing.
 
I used to be friends with a local guy who lost his hair

early in life. Of course, he works a reported 16 hours a day. supporting his family. But, I doubt his eating habits help. He's been know to down a loaded pizza and a diet Pepsi in one sitting.
He's been known to lie about a lot of things. a reason we're not close anymore. Terrible stress can lead to an early demise.

Most everything here in Florida has been allowed to reopen. Even theme parks are starting now, with lower capacities, except for Disney World so far.

Many businesses have reopened, however some might not.

It is nice to see things coming back.

I just fear a second wave could hit, in the fall/winter.
 
And speaking of Florida...

I just heard that the Republicans are moving their convention to Jacksonville from Charlotte after North Carolina officials refused to waive social distancing guidelines. No political commentary intended but personally, I can't say I'm too broken up about it.
