Cord Rewind problem on Lux Guardian Platinum

My Electrolux Guardian Platinum is only 2 years old and my cord will not retract anymore. When i took it in for warranty repair i was told this part is not under warranty and it would cost $250 to repair! Any thoughts?
There is a website for a French Lux International distributor called France-Purification. Along the top of the home page is a menu bar. Look for Aspirateurs. open the drop down menu and click on the link for the AC-11 Intelligence Classic. That is the 240 volt version of the G-P. At the bottom of the page you will find excruciatingly detailed videos showing how to disassemble the Intelligence / G-P. The cord winder is really easy to access. Take it out and what I do to free up balky cord winders is to spray just a teeny little bit of Triflow Teflon lube into the pivot point. Operate the cord in and out a few times, spritz a teeny bit more in and operate the cord in and out. That almost always frees up even the slowest cord winder. Also look to make sure the whole mechanism from the retract button on the canister body to the little lever on the cord reel is aligned and not binding on something.

Here is a photo of one of my G-Ps converted to look like an early AC-11 Intelligence Classic ( also sold as the Lux D-920 in some markets ). I bought the blue skins from France-Purification. The swivel neck in the Sebo ET-1 is from the Australian version, the Sauber Excellence ( that gaudy gold anodized thing ). That came from an Australian eBay seller. The hose is from an AP-11 Intelligence Premium. I had to remove the Bluetooth stuff from the hose handle and replace it all with a simple rocker switch for the power nozzle sourced from another Lux hose. The Intelligence / G-P is pretty looking and nice to use but just too fragile. No where near as well made as it's Swedish made predecessors.

I have a similar issue with my Silverado Deluxe. The plug had been cut off of the machine before I got it, so I have no idea how much of the original cord was lost in the process. What's there retracts on its own, all except the last two or three feet. I brought that machine back from the dead a few years ago, and that's the main problem that remains. Given what it was like when I got it, I figure that's good enough.

Laura, I would contact your dealer, show them the warranty info in your users manual, and threaten to report them to Aerus for being in violation of their dealer agreement. They are supposed to be honoring the warranty in full on ALL Aerus Electrolux vacuums for the original owner! Your Aerus dealer was trying to scam you for sure.
