Hey Guys

I posted before about a tool set I won- the postie brought then this morning :)- pics follow......

1. General view- the manual was in the box as well :)- Question to Jeff, Fred or Tom, its dated 1970 and shows a square hood model, im assuming there were so many different Convertibles by this time the manual was generic for all of them???????

And finally

I presume this is the packing slip for the 728 they were originally for....

I just wish Translantic shipping wasnt so expensive- the shipping was twice what the tools cost grr!!

Seamus,

Those tools are right for that 707, and the proper vintage. The 728 was made from '71-'73

You are also correct about the owners manual being generic. Such was the case from about 1966 on when they went to one manual for the whole series.
YOu mention the square hood model in the pictures. From the colors it looks to be a model 1060, but with a 4 position height adjuster. They must have used a prototype for the manual pics.

Congrats on the tool set, I never seem to find any around here for mine. Was wondering how much you paid to have them shipped out of interest since I sell stuff on Ebay but have never shipped anything to the UK.

Seamus...

Congrats on the tool set. You got one of the earlier taupe colored sets. The O'Neil company was a major department store here in Ohio. I believe they started in Akron (Home of Goodyear) which is only about 20 minutes from North Canton. My great aunt Estelle worked in O'Neils downtown Akron. She always had Hoover cleaners. They carried everything from the Hoover Company. Your set looks very new. Jeff is so right about the generic pictures. The company could not keep up with the new models in the literature so they just made generic photos to show features. (It got worse in the later 70's when they used those line drawings in the instruction booklets...they were awful.) Thanks for the pics. It looks like the 707 "ensemble" has a very good home.

Tool Kits

Hey Jeff!

Thanks for that info :)- it was nice to get a Taupe set as well as I gather from Tom A they are harder to find than the white version, and also, as you confirm makes it makes them the correct vintage for the 707 as he said the 1031 set changed to white in 75- mind you id have been happy with a white set lol!!!.

Id agree that the square hood appears to be 1060 colours- as you say maybe it was a prototype?????.

Pete

I paid $16.75 odd for the tools and they came with $33.75 on the box(airmail). Converted into ££s I paid approx twice what it would have cost to ship a similar set within the UK, so I guess it wasnt actually that bad. The 1031 set seems to appear fairly often on Ebay so its worth keeping a look out ;)

Cheers

Tom....

Guess we were typing at the same time!

I am very happy to have such a nice set (and also lucky to have such a nice 707!!!).

Id like to think it has a good home :)- I know it and the 1010 Jeff also sent me are 2 cleaners I would NEVER part with!(I have had a couple of offers from fellow collectors but have politely declined!).

The seller is in Lakemore, how far from NC is that?. I bet no one at Hoover imagined that this set would end up quite as far away lol!!

Seamus

Wow...small world! Lakemore is a suburb of Akron. I teach there! The school is almost exactly 12 miles from my driveway. So yes, someone living in Lakemore would have shopped O'Neils back in the day. Lakemore is just a few short miles from downtown Akron. That is so interesting.

Happy Hoovering!

707 RULES

Hi Seamus I am new to this club ,but love it. I cant beleive it i was just talking Hoovers with Tom yesterday we talked about a Hoover 707 My Wifes Mom had it . In 1971 she paid 59.99 for the vac and 19.99 for the deluxe set of cleaning tools. I learned from Tom they are not called attatchments.Any way the 707 a smart looker. It is a shame they dont make them like that any more . Good luck with it I am sure you will enjoy it Doug
