VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

To those i offended in my previous post i'm sorry. From the way the thread started it sounded like they had problems in the past with certain people making unwanted advances. I'm here for the vacuums not to cause anyone problems. I just wanted it to be very clear that i would be very uncomfortable if a guy hit on me. I love vacuums, muscle cars and love p**sy. We may have different likes ect but we all love vacuums and that is what this club is for and i think it's great. Seems like we are a rare breed so i love that there's a group for us to discuss vacuums and show them off

Well

All this latest drama has convinced me of one thing, I have sent Robert a message asking him to remove my profile from Vacuumland, Just as I left the vccc years ago, I am leaving here Its a darn shame so many will argue about so little im of the opinion most of the trouble is caused by a select few who are insanely jealous, I am tired of it, im too old and not in good enough health mentally or physically to stand getting my blood pressure up, I don't intend on having a heart attack or stroke over something so silly, im sticking with the old friends who have been there for me all these years im getting ready to get rid of all my hoover uprights they are already spoken for, and probably will get rid of all but 5 or 6 uprights ,It seems no one can stand anyone stating a opinion , ive never seen as many thin skinned easily upset people in my life, Always trying to read something into every little thing When the VCCC was made up of the early folks me, Tom, Clay Floyd, Charlie Lester, Bob Tabor,Tania, Billy Lipman, Roger Proehl, Craig Long, Dennis Cox, Mike Pletecher ,John Young, Mark Turbyfill,Mike Hays, and several others we all had so much fun, We couldn't WAIT to get to conventions, there were no power grabs, no threats, no silly arguments over who was gay and who wasn't, that mess wasn't important , Yall can fuss and argue all you want I don't intend to ever make another comment on here ever again Im DONE!

Truth be told...,

Has ANYONE even explained why this thread was EVEN APPROVED for the “vintage” forum?? Enquiring minds would love to know...

Here’s an idea: How helpful would it be for VacuumLand to have a new category for subjects and posts? We could call it: “Conventions, Clubs, Newsletters, etc”. Would this be such a bad thing??? Is this such a bad idea??? At least this way, you proponents of these subjects will have your own dedicated path to the internet for extolling the virtues of the “Tom of your choice”, without clogging up the Vintage Forum (or ANY OTHER FORUM for that matter). Some might call it a great idea. Others might say that the solution is “too easy” because the constant strife is what keeps us alive.

Having threads in their respectively appropriate forum might prevent a great deal of drama, even if it’s at the cost of less exposure given to those who post for their own narcissistic pursuits. After all, we all post with the expectation of being viewed....whether or not you’re willing to admit it.

narcissitcs pursuits hmm!

John is part of the VCCC with over 60 members. It's not about him. He has an organized club behind him. The newsletter is for the benefit of our club the VCCC. Which is open to everyone. How is that being a narcissist? John is simply trying to convey information and VacuumLand is the only public site to do so on. I am so tired of all this turning of tables on us. It's pathetic! I don't think I've ever told an adult man (or an organized club) what to post and what not to post on a public site.

Now, at the risk of stoking fires, here are my thoughts on the subject.

Have you ever realized that you could...just NOT open a thread with a header like this one?? I Know, WHAT AN IDEA! This thread's topic was marked as CONVENTIONS, MINI-MEETS, PARTIES...

Sorry, my sarcastic temper reared it's ugly head there...

Just my (probable unwanted and opinionated) thoughts...

My true hope is that..

both groups can agree to disagree with no slandering from either side. We will leave you alone if you leave us alone sort of thing. It is actually a good thing there are two groups. A collector can choose the group or club that best suits them. To me it’s not a competition.

Just wanted to clarify this..

Well, Thank you, Kenny.

A few things; First, when starting a post, mini meets, etc. ARE on the list.
Our conventions have always been talked about in here, as are gatherings, even Thanksgiving dinners, etc, from other interests.
These conventions have been attended by our webmaster in the past.
"I" am not in a contest or competition with anyone. I do not address certain post OR posters. I feel it's so asinine, really.
Everyone can see the veiled innuendos, double intendres, insults about tea, cookies, houses, etc.
To quote the movie, "Love, Valor and Compassion".... "This is tired, Ramone".I cannot be responsible for actions, etc of others. I will not be bullied or insulted, either. Just this week I was sent very nasty emails from someone whom I thought was a friend. He will never set foot in my home again... the Palace. That, (in case anyone thinks I have any affectations... was given to my home by a friend, not by me.
I, too, am here to enjoy vacuums, friends, get knowledge, etc. I feel it ridiculous that non-paying members could cause such discomfort for others. So, ignore the lies, insults, tricks, etc. I see and know that many others are bored and tired of the nonsense, too.
I choose to indulge my passion for all things "Hoover".
So, sorry if any others had to put up with such 12 year old silliness.
So, keeping it real in Vintage.... bagged or bagless? Canister or upright.

Agreed John, you started this thread in response to slanderous statements made about our convention. Which is convention related. When a poster creates a thread in vacuumland the poster is given a set of categories. Anything convention related has always been set up to be posted in the vintage section. Try creating a new thread you will see the categories/tags.

@luxlife @rivstg1 I agree with you there should definitely be a separate place to post this sort of thing.
I believe though it's intentionally put in the vintage section to hide it away from less serious collectors.
There also appears to be some sort of secret $15 newsletter you can sign up for.
This is really mind-blowing to me as somebody who makes free 4K detailed vacuum videos for everybody to see.

It's a not secret. And believe it or not some collectors still like printed newsletters and the concept of an organized club. Just like many collectors still collect vacuum literature. Not to sound rude or hateful I think it would really be beneficial to read past posts in context before making a judgment.

A newsletter is not for everybody and we are not saying it is. If another collector doesn't want to participate no one is being forced. We are all free to make our own choices.

So-O-O MANY Questions

I simply want to understand what this fake looking dispute is.

Apparently, there is some club called VCCC, which does not have any legitimate listing on line, has no website of their own, are not connected to a legit Cancer Center with the initials of VCCC, and was apparently combined with Vacland "club" at some point?

1. What?

2. Is it implied that all the members of the Vacland are the actual Vacland "club"?

3. Where does one get information about "Vccc"?

4. What does the VCCC do? Who is it intended for? Can anyone legit say?

5. If members of "vccc" are SO threatened by those from " the other side " What are you doing here?

6. How was the VCCC and vacland at one time the same thing and then decided to separate?

7. Do you realize, back in the day, once a year conventions where people had to travel to and socialize..... blah, blah, blah, was necessary, but now we have the internet. I hope we realize that sites like Vacland are a continuous ongoing convention.

8. The vccc does not sound like it consists of, or at least is being lead by, the nicest of people.

9. Anyone familiar with an old group on Yahoo for Vacuums? Any affiliation?

10. I need a side by side comparison between vccc and ....whatever the competition is so I can CLEARLY decide what side I'm going to be on. War is clearly a brewing between the Vccc and the rest of the world. I need the facts.

And the bigger question:

Why is there a separate Vacuum website from Automaticwasher? This Vintage vacuum forum and perhaps the kids forum could easily be moved to the automaticwasher website and save on administrative chores.

The rest is just a repeat: the classifieds, the members only forum, the miscl (which sees very little traffic) It's the same people, the same drama. Slightly different variant of MOSTLY anally retentive, gay, OCD and Asperger afflicted people the likes of which i'm part of.

Collecting Vintage appliances or collecting ANYTHING is not as unusual as it once was. The internet has allowed a lot of growth and understanding in the last twenty years. This site could go further but needs some improvements and consolidations, imo.

Happy 37th anniversary V.C.C.C.

The Vacuum Cleaner Collector's club was founded on January 2nd, 1983 by John Lucia and Alex Taber. It was the very first group of members who were known to collect vacuum cleaners, and the only form of communication was a newsletter.

As years passed meetings were held, first in Chesterton, Indiana in 1985, and then for the next 12 years in Naperville, Illinois.

In time the club acquired a forum for its membership until it was decided that it would be better if it merged with Vacuumland.

I do not know the logistics of all this, I only know the first 12 years of the V.C.C.C.

The first and ONLY mascot of the V.C.C.C.

The cat shown here is Caligula, and he was the mascot for the Vacuum Cleaner Collector's Club. This picture dates back to 1986 around the time the first meeting was held in my home in Naperville, Illinois.

In May of 1995, I retired from the club, relocated to San Diego, California, and am no longer associated with the management. But, the V.C.C.C. was the first to provide information to the members and was designed to be a teaching club and resource center. Interestingly, that is exactly what Vacuumland is today.

I leave it to John Long to fill in the blanks.

Uh

Nobody is posting anything in any forum.
I can understand each point.
I'm just saying he is contributing to a board with little or no posting from almost everyone.
I don't mind it as it's something with substance.
We sit back cast stones yet we only criticize convention posts but do not post anything on any topic.
I'm not taking sides. I'm saying is maybe if we stop worrying about someone else when you could contribute to the board posting other topics.
If you sit back and don't converse on topics and judge contribute not complain.
It's just how I live my life. If I'm not doing anything to make it better stop complaining. If you argue it is negative energy that could be used in a positive manner. If you don't like it don't read it do something good with your time.
Life is too short to waste negative energy.
We all like vacuuming let's collaborate not retaliate.
Les
