Happy New Year!
Pretty soon, info will come out, regarding The VCCC convention. This year, it will be held in Atlanta, Georgia. More info will forthcoming.
But, to clear up some facts: They are all not drag queens, etc. It's been reported that all are gay. MOST might be. But, it is a convention that welcomes ALL kinds of people. It might be called fabulous, because it is a fabulous event. There are no drugs, or sex parties. That is NOT in accordance with ANY rules.
I'm sure, in the past, and, after hearing about events at other clubs, things of that nature might happen. IF that ever were to happen at a VCCC function, it would be stopped immediately, and authorities would be involved. At NO TIME, would a minor, (junior member, or underage guest) be introduced or subjected to anything of that sort. It is imperative that all of that is made clear. They are NOT "homosexual parties". Any inference of that would/could be considered slander. And, that would take on a whole new plan of action.
So.......................... get ready for info, so you can make plans to go to Georgia in June.
John

I don't recall any of this behavior from the VCCC conventions I've attended since 2011. The person who is making these statements has not been a member since 2006. He was asked to leave. He is speaking from his past. As John said this behavior will not be tolerated. This is all a power struggle and what I mean't by childish competition in my previous post.

Sounds good. I'm definitely NOT gay and i do smoke weed i have a medical card but i wouldn't do it around anyone that doesn't. I definitely plan on making the trip this year though. I just don't want to get hit on by guys and honestly would punch one in the face if he tried. But anyway i have some pics of my collection but i need to update them tomorrow. I have some more Kirbys and others not pictured yet

Will, may I call you Will?

First, welcome to the world of vacuums. You might make great friends through this.
In order to attend a VCCC convention, you'd have to joining that club. At one time, Vacuumland and The Vacuum Cleaner Collectors' Club were one. Now, we're separate, but friendly. If you were to be gay, you'd be welcomed.
If you were straight, you'd be welcomed. (You'd fit right in).
No one would really care. So, thankfully, there's no need to even think about 'punching anyone in the face'.
So, again, a peaceful welcome to you, Will.

John Long, Vice pres, V.C.C.C.

Thank you John Long. Hopefully tonight or tomorrow morning i will have newer pics uploaded. My collection isn't much yet i have around 35 but i go to goodwill often and vac shops. In 1 month at my goodwill i bought a 1998 Kirby G5, 2007 Kirby Sentria, hoover Concept 1, and also found a 1978 Kirby Classic 3 at the curb on bulk trash night. My favorite Kirby i own is my 1948 508. I have a lot of Sanitaires, Royals, Kirbys, a couple hoover convertibles, 3 c type dds one being a 96 MVP and the other 2 being 92 Deluxes, a blue 1980 ESP and the logo still lights up on the hood. One of my Royals is a supreme electro hygiene. All of my aluminum vacuums are polished up with mothers aluminium polish. I love my vintage and commercial uprights and I'm always looking for more and nos parts

Hmmmm interesting

Will.

Not to be rude or anything but after reviewing your prior statements I have to congratulate you on doing something that not many people can do. Completely offend me. Which is just really rare. I don't get offended often. I just get really pissed off. So let me put your mind at ease. Not all gay men are going to hit on you or want to sleep with you. Many of us I'm sure have an amazing amount of self control and many of us have partners that we enjou being with. I'm sure that you are extremely safe. Plus many of us who have seen your statements Im sure will make sure to not do anything that will make you feel uncomfortable in any way.

Regards
Andy Snow

I have to say as webmaster of Vacuumland, I have attended the VCCC conventions in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, we hosted 2012 here in Minneapolis and 2013. I have never seen any of the kind of behavior that was described at these conventions. It's just astounding that anyone pays any attention these silly rivalries between the two vacuum clubs.

Glad to see you guys standing up and correcting what is clearly incorrect.

Well I must chime in

I was a member of the VCCC from 1994 until the mid 2000s, And I have been a member of Toms group since 2007, I NEVER saw a orgy , I never saw a drag show, I certainly never saw anyone underage being taken advantage of , In fact, In order to go to be in Toms group you must be 18, I get so tired of this insane Jealousy directed toward some of my friends, This stuff is the reason I left the VCCC and its the reason I will never rejoin, But by and large BOTH groups are made up of gay men, Face the facts ,the stereotypes are true, If a man collects appliances, is a church organist, is a hairdresser, is a undertaker, is a interior designer or a male nurse there is a very good chance he is gay He might lie about it, he might be married to a woman and have kids, If you don't believe this then just look on any hookup site and you will see.

Thank you

Robert! Kenkart - John(who started this thread) was responding to the negative remarks made towards the VCCC in this thread:

my new finds, and yet another gay collector is there a link?, reply #12. In the Contemporary section.

I remember Minneapolis well that was my first convention.

conventions and being hit on

I've been to several of Tom's conventions at the museum. I am not gay and I realize that I am in the minority when it comes to that but it doesn't bother me. I have not had any other guy try to hit on me, and even if I did, I would politely say that I was not interested. The main focus of the conventions is vacuums, not everyone's sexual orientation.
Mike

I don’t quite understand why everyone is being so polite, kowtow’ing to someone who has stated they would “honestly...punch a guy in the face (if he tried to hit on me)”. Why are you so worried about him feeling safe and comfortable? I’d like to know that all of the gay guys are safe, comfortable and not in danger of being punched in the face- self control or not! And furthermore, what about this statement from Forum Topics & Rules- Discriminatory Posts: All Forums: There will be no homophobic, racial, ethnic, gender based insults or any other personal discriminations. This will not be tolerated and will lead to immediate suspension. ???
I guess that’s not enforced.
Can anyone tell me how to delete/ cancel my membership from VacuumLand? Thanks.

John

I can say for myself, that I had a wonderful time at the VCCC convention at Kansas City this summer. Everyone was very nice to me, there was no drama until someone from the other side showed up uninvited.....
Other than that I loved the fact that we were there just to talk about vacuums and share/play with the ones we have.

Also, why does it matter if you are a vac store owner or not?
Its like saying a car show should be full of mechanic shop owners.

Rug Pile Dial.

I understand where you are coming from. I really do. And a lot of what you said I agree on. But as someone from an older Generation of the LGBTQ community it is also our responsibility to educate and teach others.in my opinion it seems that Will is the type that has this preconcieved notion that us as the LGBTQ community want to sleep with a d woth who ever we can. It is to us to correct that notion with our own thoughts of no thats not the case. And not all if us are like that. Not all of us will seem him as a person thay we want to be with. The self control it took me to not completely open fire on Will and completely go off was difficult beyond words. Believe me when I say he has only caused himself damage and has completely discredited himself with what he has said and how he feels. But for the most part this is a relatively calm forum.

We have had our issues in the past and we have been able to move past them which has helped. Our webmaster Rob is one of the best and is extremely up to date on what goes on and always willing to help if there is a problem. I have already seen Rob comment on this thread so I know he is aware of whats going on and I'm sure that he will intervene if necessary.

As for Will's statements about inflicting bodly harm on a person "if they were to hit on him" right now this is a website. And while I comepletely disagree with him and yes he is breaking multiple rules; in the event that we were to ever meet up I'm sure it will be easy enough to mind our own business and not put ourselves in ahy situation that could create a problem.

This is a great site to be a part of. I have been on here for well over 10 years I think. And I have made some great online friends and have had some amazing interactions with people. I'm asking you to give this a try and stick around a little longer.

Best
Andy Snow

To those i offended in my previous post i'm sorry. From the way the thread started it sounded like they had problems in the past with certain people making unwanted advances. I'm here for the vacuums not to cause anyone problems. I just wanted it to be very clear that i would be very uncomfortable if a guy hit on me. I love vacuums, muscle cars and love p**sy. We may have different likes ect but we all love vacuums and that is what this club is for and i think it's great. Seems like we are a rare breed so i love that there's a group for us to discuss vacuums and show them off

Well

All this latest drama has convinced me of one thing, I have sent Robert a message asking him to remove my profile from Vacuumland, Just as I left the vccc years ago, I am leaving here Its a darn shame so many will argue about so little im of the opinion most of the trouble is caused by a select few who are insanely jealous, I am tired of it, im too old and not in good enough health mentally or physically to stand getting my blood pressure up, I don't intend on having a heart attack or stroke over something so silly, im sticking with the old friends who have been there for me all these years im getting ready to get rid of all my hoover uprights they are already spoken for, and probably will get rid of all but 5 or 6 uprights ,It seems no one can stand anyone stating a opinion , ive never seen as many thin skinned easily upset people in my life, Always trying to read something into every little thing When the VCCC was made up of the early folks me, Tom, Clay Floyd, Charlie Lester, Bob Tabor,Tania, Billy Lipman, Roger Proehl, Craig Long, Dennis Cox, Mike Pletecher ,John Young, Mark Turbyfill,Mike Hays, and several others we all had so much fun, We couldn't WAIT to get to conventions, there were no power grabs, no threats, no silly arguments over who was gay and who wasn't, that mess wasn't important , Yall can fuss and argue all you want I don't intend to ever make another comment on here ever again Im DONE!

Truth be told...,

Has ANYONE even explained why this thread was EVEN APPROVED for the “vintage” forum?? Enquiring minds would love to know...

Here’s an idea: How helpful would it be for VacuumLand to have a new category for subjects and posts? We could call it: “Conventions, Clubs, Newsletters, etc”. Would this be such a bad thing??? Is this such a bad idea??? At least this way, you proponents of these subjects will have your own dedicated path to the internet for extolling the virtues of the “Tom of your choice”, without clogging up the Vintage Forum (or ANY OTHER FORUM for that matter). Some might call it a great idea. Others might say that the solution is “too easy” because the constant strife is what keeps us alive.

Having threads in their respectively appropriate forum might prevent a great deal of drama, even if it’s at the cost of less exposure given to those who post for their own narcissistic pursuits. After all, we all post with the expectation of being viewed....whether or not you’re willing to admit it.

narcissitcs pursuits hmm!

John is part of the VCCC with over 60 members. It's not about him. He has an organized club behind him. The newsletter is for the benefit of our club the VCCC. Which is open to everyone. How is that being a narcissist? John is simply trying to convey information and VacuumLand is the only public site to do so on. I am so tired of all this turning of tables on us. It's pathetic! I don't think I've ever told an adult man (or an organized club) what to post and what not to post on a public site.

Now, at the risk of stoking fires, here are my thoughts on the subject.

Have you ever realized that you could...just NOT open a thread with a header like this one?? I Know, WHAT AN IDEA! This thread's topic was marked as CONVENTIONS, MINI-MEETS, PARTIES...

Sorry, my sarcastic temper reared it's ugly head there...

Just my (probable unwanted and opinionated) thoughts...

My true hope is that..

both groups can agree to disagree with no slandering from either side. We will leave you alone if you leave us alone sort of thing. It is actually a good thing there are two groups. A collector can choose the group or club that best suits them. To me it’s not a competition.

Just wanted to clarify this..

Well, Thank you, Kenny.

A few things; First, when starting a post, mini meets, etc. ARE on the list.
Our conventions have always been talked about in here, as are gatherings, even Thanksgiving dinners, etc, from other interests.
These conventions have been attended by our webmaster in the past.
"I" am not in a contest or competition with anyone. I do not address certain post OR posters. I feel it's so asinine, really.
Everyone can see the veiled innuendos, double intendres, insults about tea, cookies, houses, etc.
To quote the movie, "Love, Valor and Compassion".... "This is tired, Ramone".I cannot be responsible for actions, etc of others. I will not be bullied or insulted, either. Just this week I was sent very nasty emails from someone whom I thought was a friend. He will never set foot in my home again... the Palace. That, (in case anyone thinks I have any affectations... was given to my home by a friend, not by me.
I, too, am here to enjoy vacuums, friends, get knowledge, etc. I feel it ridiculous that non-paying members could cause such discomfort for others. So, ignore the lies, insults, tricks, etc. I see and know that many others are bored and tired of the nonsense, too.
I choose to indulge my passion for all things "Hoover".
So, sorry if any others had to put up with such 12 year old silliness.
So, keeping it real in Vintage.... bagged or bagless? Canister or upright.
