You know on compact tristar up to the CXL DXL they had a crinkle finish or hammertoe on the paint i wonder how they did it and how i could do it on my re painted C9 ??? I was just thinking simple question to how they did that finish back in the day

I think certain types of paint are designed to do that. Rustoleum makes a line of hammertone paint and primer in one. I bought a can of it at Lowe's about a year and a half a go to paint a badly scarred PN4. I used the black, which was actually closer to a gunmetal gray. It was the most forgiving spray paint I've ever used. The texture built up a bit with each successive coat. Unfortunately, the color palate is a little limited. If I recall correctly, it was just black, bronze and silver.

The buffed-out nameplate area was a little custom touch. They never came from the factory that way but they should have.

If you paint first coat. The second coat spray on use a sponqe gives it crackle texture. People can airbrush lines also.

Antoine, the Compact was painted with crinkle paint, about 20 years ago Hesco sold crinkle paint,The brand was ILL BRONZE, I believe, but it was brutal to use. I think they outlawed it. When you sprayed a vacuum it would come out very fine almost powder type, it was so fine it would float in the air, if you didn't wear a mask it would get into your nose and actually glue your nose hairs as disgusting as it sounds. The results were magnificent, they didn't have original Compact colors, they offered Black, a bluish color and red from what I remembered, The results were great, it covered all the chips on a Compact and gave it a new like appearance. Some of the earlier Tri Stars were actually powder coated, powder coating is a great process from what I hear. I had an Electrolux CB commercial vacuum that was in poor condition and I had it powder coated, the color wasn't very nice but the finish was beautiful, I wound up selling it because it wasn't close to the original color anymore.

Hey

Antoine painted it with paint very close to powder coating. Id say get a little blue paint use a sponge on a piece of paper or something to see it that's the texture your looking for. I do believe the old suds gun or spray paint attachments would be cool put paint in and paint compact. I'd test it but just throwing out suggestions.
