Estate sale find today. They wanted a lot - settled for $30. Pretty clean. I’ve read that they are solid. Wow. This thing is built. Swivel coupling on hose leaks air a bit, but cloth hose is good. Not many miles on it. Missing the upholstery tool. Maybe I should mail in the warranty card.

from the photo ape err to be in great shape nice score ! might wana use envirocare paper bag and cloth bag and new motor filter and she will purr like a kitten !

If I were to chose only one vacuum to use I could easily be satisfied with a Compact!!
This is so rare to find in the condition. We see these all the time in such rough shape but you have saved a beautiful example!!!
I bet Tania would flip over this.

What would you do?

I never considered a Compact/Interstate/Tristar in the past. I've just never had a connection with canisters (sorry Mike). This little critter changed my mind. Stuck in a corner of an estate sale garage, next to a big pile of boxes. It probably would have been in the dumpster today. It appears that the paper bag was never used, as the cloth bag was dusty. The floor tools are shiny and appear to have almost no use. I'd like to get the upholstery tool, but can only find the clear replacements. Anyone have a green one sitting around? The fabric protector strip is in the box, so just the tool. Please.

So... a large question for the esteemed members here: Do I get a power head for it? Better yet - do I NEED a power head for it? I'm happy with the Kirby Classic III, and Sentria as daily drivers. I don't like switching them over to hoses for upholstery cleaning / corners / walls. My German Shepherd is shedding softball size chunks of fur. Vacuuming upholstery is a DAILY process. This is where the Compact might be a good bet. Leave it as an upholstery cleaner? Add a power head to add as a daily driver? Hmmm. If a power head is the way to go, which one?

Help. Todd.

for the rug you have a metal rug tool, you could add a turbine air powered nozzle for bigger rugs whit a paper bag cloth bag and motor filter you wont see dust back in the room i can assure you .The Compact C6 can be a daily driver also whit its metal floor tool and metal rug tool and a air driver turbo nozzle for wall to wall carpet try it it has lots of power .

I would definitely keep the machine original. If you want a power nozzle, use a cordless one (like the Volt from Tacony). I would use a Rug Rat mini turbine power head for the furniture. Just like the turbine head that came with the Kirby Heritage 1.

"Compact Cleaning System"

Hi Todd! Great Find! I am a collector of "Compacts" and would be able to supply you with that turquoise upholstery tool! contact me @ [email protected] and we will go from there! I am here in Milwaukee also! Happy Vacuuming

Overall I find uprights best for carpeting and canisters best for hard floors, fragile carpets, and everything above floor. I have many Royals and a few Kirby's that I use for the wall to wall carpeting, and my Compacts, Filter Queens, and Royal tank for everything else. Congratulations on finding a Compact in such excellent condition and at such a great price! I think that they are one of the highest quality and most durable vacuums ever made.

Tania

It was GREAT chatting with you!!! What a wealth of information you have about Compacts! Sorry if I talked your ear off. You gave me a lot of practical knowledge. Per your advice, I’m going to clean it up and take care of the motor filter. Also - keep it as delivered without adding a power head. I was impressed that you noticed one of the wands was damaged.

I don’t believe that one vacuum is capable of doing everything. My Classic III and Sentria take care of the heavy stuff. Two cats and a German Shepherd means chasing loose hair...constantly. I like the Compact for its straightforward approach to hard floors, and suction capability on upholstery. They complement each other.

Visit with Tania

The term “holy grail” means a lot of things. Most of the time it’s referribg to a thing. I’ll use that term to describe a person. Met Tania today. She is the holy grail of Compacts. Duane at my local vacuum shop changed out the crumbly motor filter, and set me up with new bags. Next was a trip to see Tania - about a 30 minute ride from my house.

Tania has a superlative knowledge of these little machines. She has so much reference material. No detail is too small. So I unloaded my C6. I had not cleaned it up yet. Talk about being embarrassed. Tania took out her Airway 88 and proceeded to vacuum out the cardboard box, styrofoam tray, each tool, and of course the machine. Tania knew that my wands were wrong, and had two spares ready for me. She also had the missing upholstery tool - in the right color, no less. She gave my machine its first test run since I bought it. She declared it to be in good condition. No hose leak. Very good airflow. We looked over my brochure, and Tania noted that I was missing the polish-aire. Sure enough, she had a spare. Wow. No words. It was such a pleasant afternoon. I’m sure that we’ll have some more visits. What a treat. Thanks Tania!

Tania! Give me a call! I've been out of loop for some time...i picked up a Gem thst I wanted to ask you about...talk to you soon I hope!

A compact is great for attachment use. The cyclonic action inside the bag means that they hold their suction virtually forever. I use a TriStar for my bench vac and those bags come out packed like bricks...
