The whole thing is not really a lot different than any retail scenario. Look how much people were spending on a 40" LCD tv 2-3 years ago $900-$1500 so of course the "have to have it now" folks had to have it and parted ways with $900-$1500 and enjoyed their tv's. Today that set costs $500-$600, so the people that would wait or perhaps didn't wan't to go into hawk to get it, or it was beyond their means can now afford it. Heck they could buy two of them for less now. And what the heck is 2 years anyways...that jealousy or whatever is gone, vanished, even replaced by maybe.. what a fool Joe was for wasting all that money back then when he could have paid half now or had two now the same price today.

Oh well. I am really into Hot Wheels collecting. Well, was...I had things come up.

A VERY rare car called the "Rear-Loader Beach Bomb" in pink, from 1969, sold for $72,000. The seller got the cash and bought a Dodge Viper.

I remember my first vacuum sale in 2007. A Hoover Convertible, saved from getting scrapped, sold for $31.00. Not bad, I got it for free. I have a vacuum cleaner of similar age, with similar colors called the "Handivac" and I don't see any of those around compared to Convertibles. I have 15.99 on it, no takers. Goes to show, RARITY will NOT always mean a sale. Somebody has to want it, if you want a good sale, then it takes two who want it badly.

Stop being a sore loser, things happen. Sure, Convertibles are common, but how many STILL NEW IN THE BOX? Condition is everything. Just be glad people might see these prices and don't throw these things away.

Ebay sucks and yes it has contributed to inflation greed and ordininary items that went for a few bucks years ago, to now instant anticipated retirement funds for these guys. Furthermore, anyone, and I mean anyone who could afford to toss that kind of dough around is a rich snob. No one in their right, sane, anal retentive saving mode would let the money out of their savings that freaking fast! Eurekastar, that is one beautiful Kirby in your avatar. What model is that? Can you tell me please? This is going to be my new dream model!

OK

Now my two cents. I too agree that the price paid (if, in fact it ultimately is) is amazingly high. Tania found a stash of brand new in the box Compact C-9s with power nozzle which sold for $200. This is what we call in the business world an outlier. It was a perfect set of circumstances for the seller - lucky them. Unique in that there were two potential buyers that really wanted this machine and had the means to get it. If there was only one, go back and look at the bidding, it would have sold for much less. EBay has changed things and I stay away from it now due to temptation and the fact that I really don't need or want any more machines unless they are highly unusual or brand new like a time capsule. In any event, given a slightly different set of circumstances, this would not have happened.

As a friend of mine would say

Whoever would pay that much for that NIB Hoover must have splinters in the wind mills of their mind. The real funny thing is they are gonna have to hold onto it for about 100 years before it is worth what they paid for it.......PAT COFFEY

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. For someone with disposable income, the sky's the limit. It's a nice machine, don't get me wrong, but it's still JUST A CONVERTIBLE! The only machine I could see spending that much on NIB would MAYBE be an Innovation. Just my 2 cents.

Every case is different. I might be someone that would see this particular vac as more personally valuable.

I mentioned above that we got one of these when I was little. I still remember going with my mother to Community Electric to buy it. I remember that I was appalled when I saw that they had replaced the Hoover badge on the base(as in my avatar) with a little decal. At first sight I wasn't crazy about the larger, more rectangular headlight either.

....I digress. My point is that this particular vac has sentimental value to me more so than just any Convertible might have to others.

As such, I'd pay more for this one than some others. But still not $1300.

Well at least..

there was something inside the box!!...or was there, after all there's nothing worse than paying all that money and getting an empty box or a box filled with plates and cups!!?

Stephen

I agree..........

with Chris (Sanimatic) about the sentiment part. This was actually my "first" if you will that made me notice them!

Not to mention, still my FAVORITE color combo with the 1020 behind it.....the Brady Bunch one.

That being said- no matter what my finacial status at any point is, I could and would never pay that. I'd have to be pretty lit to get me to spend $200.00 on it. I could see it happening, but it's going to take a lot of liquid courage for this boy to write that check! =0) My ex called me cheap. I prefer frugal.

Oh, and Stephen.........

BTW, great spelling on the name- the GOOD way (lol...), I wondered the same. We never really did see what was in the the box. Make sure you watch the news for some guy who went postal when he opened a box of 27 Dust Buster's.

I remember when I got one of these....

It was the first hoover convertible, and I saw it in the trash riding my bike. When I brought it home I noticed it said hoover convertible on the headlight. I had no idea what it meant but I loved using that vacuum. And then the flood came and it got destroyed, I almost didn't throw it out but it was beyond repair. Unless I got a new motor, but back then I didn't know how to put it in, nor did I have the money for it.

OMG

Where were the 'super high' bidders when I was trying to sell one of my gold Rainbow D's? Just my luck, 'a day late and a dollar short'. I'm getting to know that one rather a bit too well.
