Collecting Vacumms..?

You know something after working in Vac shops fixing, repairing , selling and all that good stuff. I have lost total interest in these appliances in a monetary sense.
The industry has changed for the worst. Consumers are buying more and more from big box stores. Society has become throw away. So having said that, most of us cannot even sell used machines at give-a-away prices. it's a real shame.
Oh well there are other hobbies; and hobbies that are much cleaner than used Vacuums..!!!!

Will they ever gain in value after you pass-a-away.?
History has shown us otherwise. NO. NADA. N/A

Um.. not with every vacuum. Not everything has a throwaway factor. When I was a student, to make ends meet and had 4 jobs in one year at one point to see me through my last year at college, I ended up helping out in a repair electrical shop. I spent more of my time unclogging old Hoovers, putting new belts on etc and the WORST aspect of my job, repairing food processor motors and slipping belts. When I left the shop, the owner gave me three old Hoover models that I eventually did up and sold on making a tidy profit. People will pay good prices for original retro!

It is easy to get negative if you feel the Chinese built throwaway types won't make money - but then nothing these days seems to have a high resale factor. We should be thankful that the old dinosaurs of yesterday are still being passed around to collectors and those who put hours of time into restoration can reap benefits, either by keeping their machines or selling them on.

I do not know if I can speak for most people on here, however for me, personally, collecting is a hobby. I get a thrill in seeking that machine, and then restoring it or fixing it. I collect knowing that I may not make money and seek machines that are interesting, cool looking, or that have some sort of memory to me.

I just started another thread about wasted collections as they just sit in a dark storeroom gathering dust, Yet I still bought two today. I own a vacuum shop so I spend all day around them yet i still get  thrill when I see one that I have been after for a while and can't wait o get it to the workshop and test it out. 


Funny thing in SA people can't get enough of the old columbus floor polisher. we buy them and rebuild them up to order. some people want really funky colours but hey its retro and retro is back big time so are wooden floors

I don't care about the monetary value... I like the vacuums themselves. If they become cheaper because nobody else wants them, all the better for me... it's only sad when people throw away good machines.

Thought about the money aspect, when I started collecting, everyone thought I was a weird kid, I could have cared less!I collect because I like the things!
