Ok guys, the has never worked in 15 years finally got to me! Took the front cover apart and found the plastic base of the selector, with 3 hoses on it had a small melted hole on the front, soldering iron maybe? Guessing that this is why it has never asked for a new bag. Sealed it with silicone , looks pretty good. But will it work? I have used that guy till it was coming out of the bag in an attempt to make it shut off, NOPE. Maybe now? Should I keep looking. d.

This may or may not help your situation, but make sure all the hoses are clear. Over time fine particles of dust get trapped inside these hoses because the system measures the suction right where the hose connects. Make sure the hoses are flexible and connected.

Somebody did a wonderful job on a thread awhile back describing how the bag ejection system works.

I've had automatic door Electroluxes from the 60's

that still function. As long as the silicone hasn't adhered to any other surfaces, and the rubber membrane moves freely as it should, I see no reason why that shouldn't fix your problem.

I just did a tune up on one of my Lux door mechanisms last night. I found that the one bellows chambers was full of dust, and promptly cleaned it. I was amazed how pliable the rubbers still were, after 40+ years.
Goodluck.

The hoses still look pretty clean! A little suction and the bellows pops it right open, applied orally of course, hoses are still pretty soft too. No idea why that hole was burned there, somebody was clumsy? Thanks for the input guys!

I think I have made progress guys! Thanks Rick for the link, interesting!! And to be so young! Finger over the port did not make it pop open. However, my bag is about 1/3 full now with garage muck, with the machine running, if I pull off the hose from the canister, light, pops open on 1. on 2 no, so guessing working ok now?? Made me pretty happy. Thanks to all for any input! d.

Garage muck is pretty course dirt. It might take a while to pop with that stuff. Surprisingly if you were to vacuum up a 1/4 cup of flour, that bag would pop on No 1 or 2. Some Lux aficionados vacuum up white rice when they insert a new bag. It is supposed to keep the pores of the bag open longer. I guess by the rice bouncing around - scraping the filter media and the outer paper bag. Sounds like you fixed your automatic control! Good for you.

My garage is not drive into style, but carpeted, so it's mostly clumping cat litter and the fuzz from the back door messy Silk, YUK tree, worms and all. It's a daily mess, a bit of dust I would guess. Thanks so much for the advice Rick, David.
