Got fed up with todays upright vacuum cleaners and went back in time so to speak, I got a Hoover CH50020 Commerical Upright based on the Decade80 design of the 1980's. It is amazing how well it cleans, cat hair is vacuumed off the rugs in one pass. Love the Hepa filtration, LED Highlights, and the 4 brush Metal Agiator without the beater bars. These are a great machine, now if Hoover would add a 2wire 40 foot cord instead of the 50 foot 3 wire cord they would have a best seller again, by offering this as a Household version instead of Commerical. It just goes to prove that sometimes in life "OLD School" still wins!

I always loved these old designs. nothing to break or clog, and the direct air design does an awesome job on rugs.

I do have a question, the bag says HEPA, but has a slide at the top. Is that a HEPA shake out bag? Do they make hepa shake outs?

Does the outer bag...

...inflate to full capacity? In other words, does the disposable mesh inner bag fill the space of the outer bag when inflated? I have a Hoover commercial Guardsman that has the heavy expensive black/grey houndstooth velour-ish/feltish outer bag. However, with an ordinary allgergen filtration type A bag installed, the outer bag does not appear ever to be all the way inflated, because the outer bag is substantially larger than the disposable inner bag. I have tried to see over the years if a larger type A bag was available, but haven't found any. Someone once told me that Arm & Hammer's type A bag was larger.  Guess what? It's not.

Here's my U4125 Guardsman with "stainless" steel brush roller with metal beater bars & 2 rows of replaceable bristle strips. This one is a 2-wire, approx. 30-ft cord.

It's still waiting for a spa day; I've been behind on restoration projects lately.

Yes,the old school Hoovers and Eurekas are excellent machines-and BADLY beat most new machines built today using more power. That Commercial Decade looks interesting-a good competitor to the Sanitaire.Koblentz also makes old school type machines and some of their models have METAL fans.I would love to see that Hoover and Sanitaire go back to metal chassis and fans-ditch the plastic. That would make it even BETTER!Koblentz machines make metal chassis and fan models under the "Ironsides" name.In all of these machines the simple DIRECT airpaths make the difference!!They can use smaller, quieter motors. And of course-their excellent brushroll designs.

Congratulations on your new Hoover!

You have indeed chosen wisely. The Hoover Professional Series uprights are excellent carpet cleaners, as well as everything else a good upright should be. I wish you many years of outstanding service with yours!

I have the very similar Hoover Guardsman model C1631, which lacks only the LED headlight and zipper on the fabric outer bag. I also have the deluxe attachment set for mine, which do a fine job of all my above-floor cleaning.

Below is my cleaner, 11 years old and still going strong.
