Cleaning an apartment before moving out

So my mom decided to move to a new apartment that's closer to her work. On Saturday, I came over to assist her with clearing out all the furniture. Mom hired some professional movers, and they were awesome! They wrapped every single piece of furniture in cloth padding before putting them into the moving van.

With that out of the way, on Sunday, my sister and I came over to do some major cleaning of the place. I, of course, got to vacuum. I spent quite a bit of time vacuuming with the Dyson DC07 Animal. I worked at a nice, slow pace, making sure not to miss any spots. I then grabbed the wand and crevice tool to do the edges. After that, I used the turbo brush and did the entry mats. I had a blast using the Dyson again!

We decided to use Arm & Hammer carpet powder to make the place smell nice.

I brought a couple of our machines as well. After vacuuming, I grabbed the portable portion of our Bissell Lift-Off Deep Cleaner to remove some mysterious dark stains in the carpet. In no time at all, they were gone!

I also brought our Black & Decker cordless dust buster. Mom used it to vacuum inside the cupboards.

My mom, sister and I made a great cleaning crew! How has anybody cleaned an apartment before moving out?

Below is a pic of the cleaning equipment sitting in the now-clean apartment. Yes, I did not empty the Dyson bin; I did that after we dropped off the equipment at our house.

Although I have NEVER MOVED in my life........

(brought home from Pittston Hospital and am still here.... I LOVE to clean apartments, etc after my friends move. They know this.
I had a friend move out of a townhouse. I had a ball going through the entire place, cleaning everything. He was very clean to begin with. So, the house was in "move in condition" when we were through.


We (my late mother and I ) had tennants move out of an apartment. It was DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!! I can't even begin to describe how filthy they left things: sectional sofa left behind, a car battery, dirt inside the washer. HOW DOES THE INSIDE OF A WASHER GET DIRTY???????? Filthy stove, etc.. a nightmare. THey (tried) to 'skip out' during the time the Space Shuttle blew up.

Cleaning that apartment was NOT fun.
But, I do like to clean other people's apartments when they are moving.

It is fun

Cleaning an empty house/apartment is fun! With no obstructions, it's easy and so fun to leave behind beautiful carpet lines!

I could never be a landlord though. I think I would require in the lease agreement a monthly inspection and if the place was filthy, take the cost of hiring a cleaning crew out of the deposit. Some people live in abject filth; and renters can be especially bad because they just don't care!

My sister moved in October

Unfortunately that was during the time I had just had eye surgery and was unable to lift, or look forward for that matter. (I had to spend the entire month of October face down so a gas bubble could hold my retina up.)

Anyway, by Niece-in-law went in a cleaned the tar out of the place. She deep cleaned carpets, washed walls, curtains, light fixtures and the windows.

The landlady was so impressed how clean it was, and that they washed the windows, she not only gave her back her full deposit, but gave half a months rent as well which she did not have to do.

My sister is disabled and unable to do much beyond vacuuming once in a while and running a damp mop. The extra effort that was put forward was worth the time.

As a long time tennant, 35 years and landlords who have died and left it to daughter, this puts me in that place of clean up and inspection. NO FUN.People do not take care of things and most have NO idea how to clean many things.

my mother and i own a cleaning business

so i am always vacuuming houses and i always take either my eureka airspeed and the customers are always shocked on what comes out of there carpet most of the time they always ask my mom to bring that airspeed i do perfer to clean house that are empty because they are so much easier to clean and like leaving carpet lines and when am done i lightly mist the house with a diy air fresher and they always brag about us to there friends and sometimes they even give me there old vacuums

Looks great, I think any landlord would be pleased to see how much effort you guys have put into leaving the place clean.

We've done it 14 times over the years, my father was in the Navy so we used to up sticks and move regularly. Each time we left one set of military quarters for another, the estate warden would do what was called a "march out", inspecting every nook and cranny and levying fines for anything that was damaged, out of place or insufficiently clean. They never did manage to find anything, because as soon as the moving truck left, the whole family would pitch in for two days and nights getting the place shipshape before handing back the keys.

Later when I had a housecleaning business I would often do end of tenancy cleans, and while they paid good money they could be hard work. A lot of people don't quite grasp the concept of leaving something how they found it, and felt because it wasn't their property they didn't have to put much effort into cleaning before they moved out. Someone else will always come along to put things right. The worst ones were those who had had some kind of dispute with their landlord before leaving, or had simply vanished without giving notice (or paying what they owed). They would usually leave the place trashed and filthy.

I'm a renter too, but look after the place as if it were my own. Our landlord is good to us, so we always try to be good to them in return. Every time they come round to do maintenance, they mention how nice the place looks, and that they never have to worry about what's going on here. Given their experiences with previous tenants I can see why they're relieved, but surely that's how it's supposed to be?

Move out-move in cleanin g--have had to do this several times for myself and freinds.The favorites are Kirby,Royal metal upright and the canister-and for one move out cleaning--the NSS M1 with the powernozzle and other tools.Did a great job--and it was fast and thorough.In that move out cleaning-the new occupants of the house pulled up while I was still working.When I got done they watched with great curosity as I put the NSS cleaner and its tools and wands back in my car.During move ins to homes I moved in or out of--apartments and regular homes.On the reg houses-the carpets were NASTY--They used those HORRIBLE carpet powders and their vacuums could not get it up.I filled both the Royal and kirby bags with that nasty stuff-smelled like dirty socks!Had to get rid of 4 bags from the those two vacuums that day-and two more from the Royal tank.The move out cleaning from the freinds house-they didn't use carpet powders-but they let the place get dusty and dirty-they did not like to vacuum as I do.I gifted them one of my Royal metal uprights-then they started vacuuming on their own.

A little more than a year ago, I moved out of an apartment I had lived in for almost 10 years. I was very thankful for my Kirby G6, which I had found by the dumpster about a year before I moved. It made deep cleaning the carpets pretty effortless, although I didn't use it on the steps--that was a job for the Electrolux 1205--I did use the G6 both upstairs and downstairs. My girlfriend's sister did the rest of the cleaning and probably went back over the carpets with her plastivac--she's like a machine and only charged me $100. I got my whole deposit back except for $100, which wasn't too bad considering how long I'd lived there.
