I had some time to kill before working my first flight yesterday, and surfed the break room tv channels and low and behold, Ozzie and Harriet was on! I haven't seen this in years, and it was a show I grew up with. Anyway, there was a scene of Harriet vacuuming with a Hoover convertible! It had a handle grip and what must have been a contrasting white handle. I'm guessing maybe a model 69? I don't know how long that show ran, but Ricky was older.

Ozzie and Harriet

The show ran from 1952 to 1966, so it should have a lot of vacuum and appliance eye candy in it! They have a table lamp episode, which I'm glad I have. If they would just come up with an uncut video release of the whole series. They cut out Rick's singing numbers.

just

spotted this in an episode of ARE YOU BEING SERVED for those of you not in the UK it was a comedy show set in a department store back in the 1970s The Hoover Senior 652a in grey and white. In the program a cleaning woman is using the machine but the sound is completely wrong and the bag is not inflated the sound used reminds me of an Electrolux cylinder machine or perhaps a Goblin

Was watching I Dream of Jeanie tonite and Tony sucked the BAD Jeanie up into the Dial A Matic and Jeanie took him to the sea and dropped him in.

Mrs. Morgenstern's Hoover

I love the episode of "Rhoda" wherein the Morgenstern family is trying to have a discussion with Rhoda's mother, who, true to her character, has reservations on the subject at hand. So, every time someone would start to make a point, she would switch on her Hoover (model 60? 91?) and start vacuuming. When the talker gave up, she would switch it off, wait for the agitator and the motor to come to a complete stop, and say something herself. Then, before someone else could get in a word edgewise, she just turned the Hoover back on! :)

"seinfeld" use to have a kirby but in later shows it disappeared. "walk the line" about johnny cash also had a kirby. a teresa brewer song called the hula hoop song had a lady hula hooping & vacuuming with a kirby also. a movie with karen black in it had her vacuuming on the stairs with a kirby. that's all i have for now.

I saw "The Jack Benny Program" the other night on ME-TV. Jack comes into his house and Rochester is cleaning the living room. He's using a Hoover upright with the hose attached, going around vacuuming with the dusting brush. There was never a clear shot of the base of the vacuum cleaner so I don't know what model it was. The hose was a light-colored Duraflex hose.

Now that you mention it, I remember seeing that episode many years ago, and if I remember correctly, Rochester sucks up the parakeet (or maybe it was a canary?) in the vacuum.

Ozzie and Harriet Appliances

You are correct that Harriet had top of the line Hotpoint major appliances during the run of the show, she did commercials that are saved on youtube raving about her clothes washer & dryer, and dishwasher. She had a GE triple whip mixer from the early days until about 1960 when a Sunbeam mod 12 Mixmaster took its place. They were the only married couple on television that did not have twin beds in their master bedroom. They got around the rules by never showing them both in bed together. A fully dressed Harriet brought Ozzie a cup of coffee while he was still in his PJs in bed.
