I am not interested in buying since I have two D50s in parts in my garage currently, but I am intrigued.

There's a guy locally selling a pair of classic 1-CR machines. One of the id plates clearly says 6 amps. The other is fuzzy but I am 90% certain it says 4A.
The 6A SN has a B prefix, and the 4A an A prefix. both id plates clearly say Classic 1-CR

Can anyone confirm that the early classic 1-Cr had a 4A motor?

Cheers!

Ken,

As far as I know, all Classic 1-CRs used the same field coil (103969) and armature (114969).

The Classic 1-CRs which listed 5 amps had a serial number break between R100001 and R233000, while the usual 6 amp rating started from serial number R233001. These early builds also used the exact same fan case (120065), front axle (131656) and height adjuster (133056) as the Dual Sanitronic 50 and 80.

Could you please upload the pictures of the 1-CR rating plates you describe?

News to me!

All five of my lcr's are 6 amp. Are these 4amp motors 2-speed? I believe Heritages were rated 4.5 amps the the G models were 7 amp. Hope to learn something new today.

Hi

The classics have 6 amp motors. The pic u believe says for your mistaken. There's a number before the 4 and it's either a 5 or 6.
It doesn't load good but zooming in its a 5 or 6.

It is 4 amps

Actually 😂 The 1CR used the 562/D50 motor to begin with, but due to the larger brush roll a lot of them burned out due to the excessive drag on the motor. Bearings failed and armatures went up in smoke.
So, as long as the motor in your 1CR is original, it is 4 amps. Oftentimes they were updated by shops to the larger armature, I believe even Kirby recommended it after a while. The Omega came standard with the 6 amp. Don't let anyone steer you wrong, and that sticker definitely says 4

Umm

No
562 and sanitronic 7 were the last 4 amp motor. The ds50 and every Kirby since us 2 speed. The ds 50-mid to late run of ds 80 were 2 speed GE motors. The mid run of the d80 kirby built there own motors that were very similar but different enough and patents were made for the new motor. The cr1 classic badge I'd the same on every classic. It's 6 amp motor. The housing was similar to ds 80s but the motor was beefed up and had a different field coil.
It's not 4 amps. Look through pics of the classic plates and notice there all the same.

They

It was either black and decker, lamb but someone made motors and kirby stopped the relationship. You can look that up and I guarantee patent numbers changed exactly like I explained. I might have got the mfgr wrong but the amps and dates you can take that to the bank.
Everyone is wrong sometimes. I'm wrong more than most it doesn't mean anyone's trying to offend you. You corrected me as I was wrong
I have kirbys parts diagram from 505 to avalir.
I stated 516 didn't have black carbon brush caps and I was wrong. I looked it up and wrong.

Model 1-CR

Wonder why Kirby started with 4 amp instead of the 5 amp (ds80) before progressing to the 6amp motor? The 5 amp was already in steady use so why reduce the size of the motor while increasing the needs of a larger sized vacuum cleaner? 4 to 6 instead of 5 to 6? Confused.
