Cirrus Upright (What are your thoughts)

At work we've always had Electrolux uprights.
A long time ago we had a big Electrolux canister (that I called R2-D2 because it looked a lot like R2-D2 and was almost as big, loved that machine but I digress).

I work for a major corporation and so have no choice on who headquarters deals with regarding vacuums.

We use the red and gray Electrolux upright (Lux Commercial)
When we request a replacement vacuum (for repair) they send us a reconditioned Electrolux (always the same model).

The other day we received a Cirrus Upright ProGrade (either the Black CR69A or Green CR79, I was P O'ed because we didn't receive the Electrolux so I didn't notice the color).
That vacuum did have a huge HEPA filter on the side of it.
There is no way this vacuum can take the torture we give the Electroluxes.
It has a hoses attached to a wand and the bag looked smaller than the Electrolux's.

We tried getting bags for Cirrus before (when corporate was thinking of moving to the Cirrus). But it was impossible so gave up. Now corporate is saying they are totally fazing out the Electroluxes for the Cirrus.
So I hope they fixed the issue with getting bags for this.

The plastic on the Cirrus does not compare to Electrolux's. The Cirrus is flimsy and thin where the Electrolux is thick and sturdy.

The Cirrus might be good for home use but I can't see how they will last very long with the beating we inflict on vacuums.

Is our corporate making a mistake with the move to Cirrus?
Do they compare to Electrolux's "hardiness"?
What are your thoughts?

I think the Cirrus will take somewhat of a beating but I am personally far more a fan of the Aerus/Lux upright if a dual motor/clean air machine is required. Otherwise, I think for commercial use very few machines will outlast a classic Sanitaire.

I think the Aerus Commercial will hold up better over time. We use a Windsor vacuum at work, basically the Sebo X4 copy, its indestructible. Most commercial and hotel industries use highly the Sanitaire or Windsor. My gym uses Windsor backpacks. The Cirrus design I believe stems off the models of yesterday. That model you have actually looks like a Fuller Brush copy,

They have done the same change where I work as well. We used to have 3 ProLux uprights, they asked for a new machine when one needed service and received a Cirrus in return. The first Cirrus worked great for a few months and now it's worthy of being in the dumpster. We received a second Cirrus machine shortly after and now after about 6-7 months it too is ready for the trash. The bags leak so much more dust then the Lux bags and the quality of the above floor hose is horrible. Each machine has tears in the hose near where it connects to the back of the machine.

The Cirrus machines need much more routine maintenance, they need both pre and post motor filters replaced as well as the belts. The people who usually vacuum where I work can barely manage to change the bag, it's only changed when it stops picking up, smells awful, or backs up and clogs the hose. They certainly aren't going to flip it over, remove the bottom plate and roller, and replace the belt, not in a million years! The Lux has a geared belt and really never needs to be changed. The bristles on the brush roll in the Lux seem to last much longer too. The Cirrus may have more suction power and on-board tools, and it costs less too, but it's build quality and overall longevity don't even come remotely close to the Aerus. All that savings in the initial cost of the machine will end up costing more in time due to frequent vacuum repairs/replacement, and the expensive replacement of carpeting that is prematurely worn out.

I figured all this...

I didn't even use this machine and immediate sent it back. I called our repair department and told them, as long as they still have the Electroluxes, to send only those to us in the future for as long as they can.

I don't know how corporate came to the conclusion that the Cirrus was in any way a HARDY machine that can tolerate a lot of neglect.
Someone didn't do their homework.

I have the same feeling that they'll be getting way more return for repairs with the Cirruses then they ever did with the Lux Commercial.

I have to say that it depends on the cirrus machine that you get. I have seen some that seemed to be of great quality and others that seemed flimsy. the commercial is not a bad machine however does a great job of cleaning. A good friend of mine happens to sell these quite often and he doesn't get them back much for repairs because they hold up well. once in a great while if I am not mistaken he said that they come in for a clean out and brush strip replacement. bags and parts can be ordered through steel city vacuum too. for the money spent cirrus isn't a bad machine. on the other hand I have 4 lux uprights one of which is the machine that you have pictured and I love it. the machine is bullet proof but for some reason it cannot handle a lot of fine dirt as the bags usually tend to clog up and these are the 4 ply electrolux bags.

This is the type of thing that happens when a " pen Pusher" makes decions only on performance data, IE what the pamphlets say.

I see it all the time in my business. I get at least one email a day saying please provide us with a quote on the a machine with a 60l drum capacity, must have twin motors of 1400watts each, must be no nosier than 84dba.

I reply by saying that we don't give general quotes, Tell me your needs and I will use my years of experience as a vacuum shop owner, Vacuum engineer, and common sense to guide you in the right direction. I also want to speak to the person using the vacuum to find out what their needs are too. Many company's simply never email back and I actually don't care as the ones that do come back end up getting the right machine and normally its nothing like the one the purchasing clarke wanted to buy and more like the one they had been using or one that Suits the Janitor.
