Christmas gift advice!

My second post!

My sister and her husband have four dogs, almost only hard floors, and no vacuum! For Christmas, I am going to fix that. The budget is a bit tight right now, but saw a couple of promising and inexpensive options:

Sanitaire SC3683B Commercial Canister Vacuum (Basically a Mighty Mite with some better attachments)- $103.83

or

Hoover Commercial CH32008 Hush Tone Canister Vacuum, 9 L - $133.73 (I will have to add an upholstery tool)

What thoughts or advice do you have? any alternative suggestions that are similarly priced?

The Sanitaire is a great lightweight choice for the money - that long 7 foot hose is a great feature!

My biggest problem with many of these Mighty Mites is the powerful exhaust that blows out the back of the cleaner. It can kick up a lot of dust from the surface of bare floors. BUT - you can add an optional Hepa exhaust filter to the model you are looking at and this should diffuse the exhaust air. If you can afford it, definitely add on this Hepa filter to the vac.

Does it have to be a new vacuum? I personally would have no issue with receiving a used bagged vacuum as a gift, but some may not like this.

If it has to be a new vacuum and money is tight, you may consider something like the Bissell Zing. It received 4 out of 5 starts on Amazon from over 3,500 folks so it shouldn't be all that bad. And it's only $50 with free shipping. I haven't used it personally and have only looked at the reviews, but it's got to be better than their current situation of no vacuum at all!

That is a great option! I'm almost concerned considering how cheap it is! I am very open to getting a nice used machine, but finding one can sometime be tricky. If you know of any models that are usually pretty cheap, feel free to share!

looks cool - but it says includes reusable cloth bag with paper option? A reusable cloth bag? Who would want that? You would think they would just make disposable cloth hepa bags for it.

Strongly consider the Hoover because the wheels make it move a little bit nicer.
I would be scared to buy anything from Eureka going on at that company

The neumatic James would be a recommendation for$249.
There's also a Miele c1 $.249 right now on Amazon

Most of the older Electrolux canister models can be had fairly cheap. I often find them at thrift stores in my area, but they show up on eBay all the time as well. Models like the 1401, 1505 are pretty robust. The plastic bodied Electrolux Epic models also are very nice machines.

Thanks for the advice! I had forgotten about the James. she would probably get a kick out of the face.

What exactly is going on over at Eureka? I know I got a vacuum for my parents years ago, some bagless thing, that spews dust everywhere but it ran okay.

It's bagless, but $25 is a great deal for a Hoover! Many vacuum enthusiasts frown at bagless, but if your sister isn't one, she probably wouldn't care if it was bagless. And again, it's $25!

Of course, I'm partial to HOOVERS

and, one would be great. They do make a very nice pet brush now...with rubber fins. It does a great job on cat hair (from experience). I've given them to friends.

The Zing isn't bad at all for the money! I'd replace all of the tools, right down to the extension wand, but other than that it isn't bad! Simplicity style Z bags fit in the Bissell Zing, that's an easy way to improve filtration. The Mighty Mite or PortaPower would be good too, but the Zing would be the cheapest option while still actually being decent!

What I decided on...

So...I found another deal on a Watermatic V and decided to get her that!  Interesting machines and well built!  Thanks for helping out with the advice!
