I can't believe I finally found one! A dirt devil vision swivel glide! Now I know, it's "just a dirt devil", but I couldn't care less! This is the exact kind of sweeper my mom had when I was growing up for years before she got a dyson dc07 (but now she has a kirby G4, that she got off her pretty cool son haha). But yes, I absolutely adore this machine. I have kirbys, fantoms, old hoovers, the lot. And I care for them all, they all have their special place. But this one has so much memories behind it, it's what started my sweeper obsession :). Yes, I normally prefer bagged sweepers, but come on. What's more special than your mom's sweeper from when you were a kid? And this one is in surprisingly good shape. Needs new filters, the ones on it now smell of quite old dirt. But the attatchments are there, nothing is broken, even the pedal button to release the head works just fine. I couldn't be more thrilled!

I remember when those came out. Dirt Devil had a pretty cool commercial, a talking toy got sucked up and you could see him spinning around.

The first ones were TERRIBLE. They had a plastic (yes, plastic) "permafilter" that was smooth plastic, and restricted airflow almost from the first minute of cleaning. I was never so happy as when they went to the pleated filter. The pleated filter was far superior.

Ultimately, Dirt Devil made them (under various names and sizes) for quite a while.

Congrats on a childhood vac find.

I have a green version, it was also a childhood machine because my uncle had one before and I used to hate it because it was VERY LOUD. Didn't really care about it until I saw another one at my thrift store and decided to try it out for old times sake. I was surprised by how powerful it really was so I bought it. Only thing it needs is some attachments which I can still get and a bumper which is hard to find. I thought the brushroll was very unique because it has 3 rows and each row is red, white, and blue.

Every bagless I have used was absolutely trash. Then dysons came along and they were better in respect to not loosing what little airflow they have. I've had better cleaning performance out of bagged vacuums. I had a eureka smartvac (purple) that I modified with a flashlight body to lift the bag off the intake filter hole. Doing that caused the bag to not get pulled in and it sucked from all around the bag like the best commercial bagged designs are. Same exaxt bag chamber design as the Kenmore Elite induction I had.

I had a bissel once. The only thing they make that's decent is the proheat shampooer.

I know what the nostalgia means though. My grandma had a kenmore powermate from 1973ish. I'd love to have one.

Dysonman1

I think mine may be that perma filter. It's pleated, but it has that wierd slanted plastic top on it, which unfortunately for me is much more exspensive to replace than say a standard f1 filter lol

I have the purple Perma-Filter version. I have since then turned it into a stripped down service vac. I got it completely trashed. I hate it how crap gets caked on the Perma-Filter. What is the thing even made out of?

Man, I've wanted one of those for the longest time. I can still remember seeing these next to the Fantom Wildcats and Bagless SP Windtunnels in the Target vacuum section,

On the subject of perma filters...

So is it supposed to be washable, hence the name 'perma' or was that just a cheeky name they gave it?

I just picked this up yesterday, it has the electronic performance indicator instead of the mechanical one. This still has in fact the original filter that dysonman1 was referring to.

I completely agree with you. That filter really just makes me appreciate my green one alot more. Technically I could replace that filter with a pleated style one nowadays but the later Visions like my green one, they've redesigned the airflow area to where I can get more power than the blue one.
