I finally decided to upgrade our central vac. I got the Vacu-Maid S3600. Here are the specs:

•Square Footage - 18,000
•Water Lift - 160"

•Dirt Capacity - 9.5 Gallons

Got it all installed and up and running and holy cow it sucks! Things are now sucked up with authority. This thing is crazy powerful. I love my new central vac.

This is the motor unit. Note the metal dual exhausts, they are needed due to the heat the motors generate. Please excuse the unpainted block below it. The CV was bigger.

And this is the dirt container/cyclonic seperator. It has a plastic liner in the bottom and the top lifts off so you can easily clean the motor protection screens.

Just out of curiosity Andrew, what was the central vac unit that was there previously? Hope it was nothing very vintage....
 
This VacuMaid model is rated as to be able to be used by 2 people vacuuming at the same time! The high waterlift is fabulous! I have the older P350 and after 15 years it's still going strong.
VacuMaid's large 2 motor "pods" have always had one motor on top and the other upside down on the bottom with an inner chamber in the middle from which the suction opening goes. The good old Vacuflo equavalent is almost 30 inches wide to be able to accomodate the motors side-by-side on the top. This is a much better use of space, to me.

Wow! Although I am not a fan of central vac, I would love to give this one a try. My sister has central vac in her new house which uses the Turbo Cat powerhead, I think I would like it better if it used an electric power head. What tools do you use with your central system Andy?

As often as I vacuum, dragging that hose out everytime gets old. When I clean for my sister I use hers, but often take my Royal along.

I had a friend many years ago that had central vac and I loved it. It used Eureka tools, the old Eureka tools with the 3 peice wands, deluxe dusting brush and upholstery tool. It also had the Eureka style powerhead, with the Vibra Groomer 1. It was installed in a old farm house. It worked well, her daughter had a hair salon in the basement, so it got a work out

Hey Morgan

I have several sets of attachments. First, I have an electric hose on the main level and the upstairs level, both equipped with hose socks so they slither around corners and the floor wiht no effort and no damage to furniture or trim. I have a straght suction hose in the basement and another in the garage for cleaning the cars and garage.

I have two power heads that go on the electric hoses. I have the Wessel Werk EBK340 which is almost like a Miele 236 without the height adjustment. I also have a lindhaus power nozzle. I use both just depends on my mood. Here is the Wesel Werk.

I've got an S3200, the older version of this, installed at the store. Looks exactly the same, but the specs aren't quite as high. 120" waterlift and 220 CFM, or something close to that. The thing has gotten really growly in the last few months; I'm thinking one of the motors will go out soon. Never was particularly quiet, though.

Isn't it cool how you can mount the motor unit and dirt can in any configuration you want? Anytime I see these (or the single-motor versions) the cans are mounted right next to each other -- I've thought it would be nice to stick the motor off in a distant part of the house, and the dirt can in the garage/utility room where you can get to it.

These are WAY easier to maintain than the single piece VacuMaid/Imperium units, but the screen seems to get clogged faster.
