Canister Vacuum recommendation - repair or replace?

Our 16+ years old Sebo C3.1 finally died (burnt electrical smell, the motor won't turn on).

I recently purchased a hose (last year) and a telescopic wand (three years ago)

but the ET-2 powerhead is also probably going going gone (making horrible sounds. I did get a new brush for it a few years ago)

note that I made a mistake a while back and purchased way too many extra bags and filters (though probably can sell these)

3500sqft house, very low commercial style carpet in most of the house (tile in entry, kitchen, and bathrooms)

one story but have a narrow spiral staircase to a loft (i.e. would like a vacuum to be smaller/lighter weight, though the current C3.1 has been fine)

three Samoyed dogs which drag tons of dirt/debris/leaves and shed lots of hair

the vacuum will be used daily

my wife has asthma, ABPA, and lots of other allergies, including pollen, fungus, dust mites, etc.

should I attempt to repair it? if so, I'll probably also have to get a new ET-2 ($350) real soon... but will be able to use

or should I look at getting a new one, if so what would you recommend?

Sebo E3? D4 might be too large/heavy?

Miele C3 (which version? way too many, a bit confusing...)?

Lindhaus Aria?

anything else?

Carbon brush maybe or switch or motor it self shot check those first .

Seems like you got a good run out of the machine. I'd say time to replace. The Sebo E3 or Miele C3 Marin would be a good match for you. Good solid machines that will give you a very long service life with proper maintenance.

I agree with the other user, I think it's time to retire your old vacuum. All three options SEBO, Miele, and Lindhaus are good options. Try them all out at your local vacuum store and see which one fits best for you.

My wife also says replace...

She says to stick with SEBO (unless they've changed in the past 16 years and went downhill as some companies do...)

that said, the next thread mentioned TriStar...

what do you guys think of TriStar CS as compared to SEBO E3?

The Tristars filtration won’t be nearly as good as the sebo’s or mieles. I’d say if you want the absolute best in filtration the Miele Marin would be your best bet. Between the e3 sebo and Miele Marin id say that the Marin will be a little bit more user friendly and refined than the sebo but the sebo will be a little cheaper in terms of running costs ie bags and filters. I don’t know what part of Californian your in but if you’re in the Sacramento area I actually work at a Miele dealer.
