I have a few pictures here of me vacuuming when I was about 18 months old in the fall of 1987. We had the vacuum in these pictures until March of 1989 when my mother sucked up a clothespin and it was replaced with a Hoover Elite 200.

I dont remember much about this vacuum except it had a cord winder and I do believe it was a Kenmore.

I would appreciate if anyone could tell me more about this vacuum, which is the first one I ever used and if possible where to locate another. I have never seen another vacuum like the one we used to have.

Thanks,

Sam

Sam....That is a Sears Kenmore vacuum from about 1986-1989. My grandmother purchased her's new back in February 1988. It replaced her Kirby Classic. If you can find any old late 1980's Sears catalogs you should be able to locate that model# and of course there is always ebay. I will say I never really had a high opinion of this particular vacuum. The power drive never worked right, the cord winder always got stuck, it was a screamer, and I always felt that it never really cleaned the carpet. To top it off the cloth outer bag came apart at the top! Of course, I told her she should have purchased a Eureka ESP, but I guess she wanted to use her Sears charge instead. Anyway, just keep your eyes and ears open and I am sure one will pop up.

we

had one of those the bag was on a rubber band and always broke up. Yes it was a screamer it was two speed and I thought it cleaned pretty well. I think it went to the vacuum gods.

Talk about a cute young man !!

Notice how he even has the cord gathered around his hand in the first pic so as to not trip over it. In the second pic you can see that he is putting all of his strength into pushing the vac. What a stance :-). Great pics Sam !!!! Not many of us have pics of us with vacs when we were small. Glad you had these to share.

I found one of those about 5 years ago at a yard sale. I liked the whimsical look of the handle... but the one I had didn't even turn on and I threw it in the garbage... wasted 3 dollars on it! I should have tried it out first. And yes, that is an adorable picture!

Looks pretty close.

Same shape, different pattern on the bag and a few more graphics.
This pic came from the Sears fall and winter 1985.

It was the cord at the winder end,i remember the used to pull it out hard like it grew another foot or 2 lol.I will see if my aunt still has the catalog from that year. Ill also keep my eye out for one.

Yes Phill

I belive it was the same model that Tony used I think they had about 3,They had the one with green bag,This model and this model with self propel,He also used a blue late 80's Houskeeper. Im sure there was anoter one or two Im forgetting.
Terry; That was expensive for 1985, In 1988 I wanted so bad a MOL or BOL Kenmore twinfan and not even Santa would spend that much on a vacuum for me :(lol. I remember almost getting the BOL one for 99.00 in late 90 But instead I went with the Singer-more style canister like in the Birthday episode of Roseanne. It was on clearance for 44.00 lol

Oh Ken, to bad that Santa didn't come through for you that year. I wonder what a new Kirby and Electrolux went for in 1985?

I remember these

this is Ken, Roberts bf, I remember these vacuum cleaners. My grandpa had one. It replaced a penncrest canister vacuum cleaner that my grandma won thru some drawing at Jcpenny. She was a sales manager. Anyways he had this vacuum up till summer of 05. he then bought a Hoover foldaway. The kenmore seemed to work good, had 2 speed motor and never really had a problem with it. when he got rid of it he gave it to me cuz he could not push it anymore, even on the highest setting it was still hard to push. Not a great vacuum but not a bad one either!! Then when moving it fell out of the Uhaul and the handle broke. :-(

Terry
If I recall, back in the mid 80's when I had my vacuum
shop. Kirby's were hitting the $700.00 mark. Lux's
I not as sure but I'm thinking $450/489 ?
Any one know different for sure !
I'm sure Rainbows were $650/700.

Tony Danza

I remember the episode where Tony got the Regina Housekeeper Plus, after seeing that episode I had to get one so bad and saved and saved till I went to the store and got it. I wish I could find that episode. Oh and by the way the Kenmore we are talking about I have it and yes its from 1985/86.

Davinator, I just watched the Regina Housekeeper episode a few weeks ago... I was just getting into Who's the Boss for the first time... It couldn't figure out what vacuum it was at first, but I finally got it! I also noticed the switch from the regular Kenmore to the Self Propelled one...

I can't for the life of me remember what episode it was that had the Regina, but it was funny... Tony was going to goose Angela with the extension wand, but didn't, and at the end, she did it to him! Virtually all the episodes are on youtube just FYI :o)

Sure can!

My great grandmother had the same machine about 1987-1991. See the clipping I found from a popular website (can't recall the name).
