I dunno Brad..seems like a lot of work carting a big ol Kirby to the car...I use one of my Electroluxes and its little power nozzle with the name that's on the tip of my tongue and won't come out LOL

Of course you can use the Kirby Zip Brush for cleaning out the inside of your car. HOWEVER,,car floors are notorious for holding lots of little stones and pebbles,,which could possibly ding, crack or break a Kirby fan blade when sucked into one. Much better to use a direct to bag type cannister such as an Electrolux, or even better yet, direct to cannister Filter Queen!
The Electrolux SideKick is excellent for use on car interiors.

I find that my Kirby turbo/zip brush works quite well at bringing up the nap of matted down auto carpet. Just be careful not to suck up any small stones with it, as they aren't very well excepted by plastic turbine.

P.S. I hope that you get that Elux, they are great machines! Do you have an 80 series already?

I always lift out all the mats and put them on the floor of the garage and use the upright first, then canister around the car.

I used my Electrolux AE with the Kirby Zip Brush on our car, worked great!

Get a 2CV, there's no carpets to clean in one of them, just a rubber floor mat that you can sweep off...

It wasn't too difficult cleaning the car with the Kirby (tried it once). It's easier to take the big handle off and swap it with the portable handle. However, as mentioned pebbles and coins like to hide in car interiors. I picked up a penny in my Heritage II while cleaning the car, luckily it didn't break the fan. The penny did get quite bent up, I think I still have it somewhere. When I removed the hose right after finishing the car, I found a nickle resting inside the cupler on the hose. If that when through the fan, I'm sure it probably would have broke...got lucky on that one!

Now I prefer to use canisters to clean out the car, my choice is always the Miele S4 Neptune since it's smaller, it's easy to deal with in the car.

IF you do use your KIRBY...

I've found it effective to attach the massage cup attachment to the end of the hose. It "digs out" the small pieces of gravel, sand, etc.

...Although, I'm with electroluxkirby -- I use my Automatic E and it works REALLY well. I attach an older (metal) upholstery nozzle that I have (possibly from an Electrolux XXX), and I was amazed at how well it worked - on both upholstery AND the carpeting. I don't have a SIDEKICK, but have picked up a newer Electrolux brush roll that is air powered by the suction. It's a dark brown plastic thing. What the upholstery tool DIDN'T get, this thing did - and the size was small enough to use with out getting in the way.

Can I shampoo the car interior with the kirby?

I do have a green model 89 with all the original accessoriies and hose.

I love the colour of the model 88.

LOL your going to throw out your back! i would NEVER use a kirby for cleaning out a car. Use a canister Or a really powerful hand vac.

Not sure how well that method cleans, I've never tried it!
Personlly I've always used a 3 in 1 machine to shampoo my car's interior.

I have also used a kirby to vacuum the insides of my car, just made sure not to suck up any stones etcc
Most of which get caught on the rubber mats which can easily be lifted out.

Not having a full Kirby shampoo setup, I have only used a Bissell Little Green Machine to clean upholstery. I would imagine that as long as you can maneuver your equipment comfortably within the vehicle, there shouldn't be a problem.

I'm located on the other side, in Windsor, On. Unfortunately a bit far for a mini-meet. Vacuums seem to come in spurts for me. After not seeing an 80 series Elux for sale in a couple of years, I came across several within a couple of weeks. I really love the two tone colour scheme of these machines, it reminds me of 50's automobiles. Once polished up, that metallic red is a real killer-diller!

IF you're talking about the spray-gun (Suds-O-Gun) attac

Well, I tried it ONCE....but, honestly, it took FOREVER to dry...and then of course, if you use the one of the straight suction tools (the upholstery tool, for example), it doesn't raise the knap very well. I ended up using a Kirby Vacuette for some brush roll action.

Of, course I just sprayed the suds right on the carpet. MAYBE if you did it something like spray the suds into a bucket, or on newspaper (as shown in one of my Kirby manuals), and then just spread what you need from that using a damp sponge, it might dry better/quicker. That MIGHT work.
