Got home from work today and there were two suprises in the living room. One was a convertable (late 70's early 80's I would guess). Not a bad item... But what I was really excited to see was this Kenmore Powermate w/attachments and manual in STELLAR CONDITION!!!! Have been looking for one of these for awhile and my wife (who sometimes rolls her eyes when I come home with vacs) actually suprised me with them!!!! LOVE IT!

eh, Now that she has been bitten by the bug too - let me know when you have your yard sale for your furniture and the vintage range, fridge, etc..

It's obvious you are going to need more vacuum room.

I have seen some things I would like to have in your lovely home.

Thanks,

Rick

BTW - great machines - congratulations!

Rick, you are at the top of the list! haha. Good thing is there is the possiblility of a "vacuum room" being established in one of the bedrooms on the 2nd floor! I will keep up the hope!

Derek, two really great machines and they look to be in perfect shape.  Yard sale finds or what??  I bought that very same Kenmore Canister new in 1979.  I don't have it any longer but it is still in use.

Terry, they were found at a thrift store that is just down the street from the house. Yes, the Kenmore is a beaut!

Here's my two: Almond 2095 is all original & the blue Sears best 2899 is my recent find. As shown in photos, my blue 1 have a PowerMate not original to this vac & have been using a spare 7ft hose with it & have 2 original hose ends awaiting a hard to find 10ft hose blank. What I did to the newer powermate head is to swap out its upper wand & cord so it fit perfectly to the vintage Kenmore hose & painted its hood to match the light shade of blue. As shown in 1 photo I have used Kenmore type O HEPA bags in both vacs & they fit the bag holders by folding the bottom cardboard & fold a S shape on top.

Way to go with the Kenmore. The two tone blue version is a lust object of many of us. You nailed a really nice one. There was one on ebay last month or the month before that fetched $129 plus shipping.

I have to try the O bag. I have been using HEPA bags for Numatic Henrys, doing the same thing folding the cardboard under so the bag holder can fit all the way down into the slot.

Where do you find foam to re-foam the secondary filter?

Everybody is hunting for ten foot hoses. I have long wondered if there is a way to adapt original Kenmore ends to those Generic (is that the brand name?) hoses you see vacuum shops selling for old Kenmores that have pig tail cords at each end. Once upon a time you could, and I did, but the cuffs were just like Kenmore cuffs. Now they look like Budd central vacuum hose cuffs, not sure you can adapt them any more. You also need that two prong double male connector that goes in the canister hose end and who knows where to find those unless you get one out of an existing bad hose?
