Calling all Hoover canister owners!

Help Support VacuumLand:

Does anyone know of some actually decent generic bags? These WindTunnel canisters seem kinda picky as to which bags are in them! Usually use the OEM 4010808S hepa bags, but figured if there were a cheaper alternative I could try, then I could save a few bucks.

Tried the Envirocare bags, not too impressed... not the best nor the worst but not something I'd want to use long-term in my machines.

Also, wanted to see about CWP brushrolls. I am restoring an S3639 WindTunnel for my mother's friend and the original brushroll is shot; bristles are worn down and the bearings are melted from so much pet hair. I wanted to see if the savings are really worth it or if I should just go with OEM.

It seems the consensus here is that the CWP brushrolls, though decent products, are not too fitted for these machines/power nozzles, but I figured I'd ask anyway.[this post was last edited: 5/10/2013-21:44]

Get the genuine Hoover brush roll for S3639

I have not luck with any of the CWP brush rolls for any vacuum yet. I have the Windtunnel style generic brush roll in 3 Windtunnel uprights. It has ruined all 3 machines. It killed one completely, and the other 2 just did not clean as I feel a Hoover should.

I tried the generic Elite style 12" brush roll to run in my Hoover PowerMax canister. Hoovers version 48414081 is designed to fit the Hoover Elite uprights and Hoover PowerMax/ Futura style canister power nozzles. The CWP version was awful in the canister and did not have it running and sounding well.

I strongly recommend replacing your the agitator in your Hoover Windtunnel Plus S3639 with a genuine Hoover Windtunnel canister brush roll 48414084 also known as part number 90001371. The chevron design on it is completely matched to the suction duct location in that power nozzle.

Rob, thanks for the heads up. The person who I am doing the overhaul for said she'd prefer OEM parts so CWP is outta the picture.

On a side note, my friend bought a Hoover S3670 at Home Depot this past week to replace her dying Kenmore and I am pretty sure the power nozzle has a CWP brush roll in it. Has the yellow bristles, non-chevron design and looks exactly like the one on the CWP site. I should do a side-by-side and see how they compare.

Demension 1000,

Still have one! The hose is suppler than something very suppley (What's supple enough to compare)??(??)?

I heard these are going on the Rare side?

I own one of those none-cord-reel Futura canisters, too. Bought it age ago at a Flea Market. The Dimension came from a Garage Sale.

Let's see...Perhaps a Porta-Power? Take your choice of Pumpkin on wheels or Montgomery Ward Delight!

Constellations, Portables, Ha, Maybe one day!

Here's the fully refurbished Wards, Not exactly "Canister", but it's all I have pictures of right now! Only have the before pictures of the Porta-Powers on hand...

Do request pictures of the others if you please!

My Penncrest Canister (Hoover Constellation). The Constellations are my favorite. I might like to get a green Slimline as well. I saw one at an estate sale recently but passed it up because it had no hose.

Yeah, my Penncrest is a work in progress. I managed to get the electrical tape off the hose. It's cracked, I may try to shorten it. I also need to replace the filter.

Oh, and that Kenmore is nice too. Are those the lambswool pads for the attachments?

Why thank you!

Yes, I believe those are pads for dusting on wood surfaces with the attachments,

Quoted from the user manual:

<span style="font-family: terminal, monaco;">"DUST MITTS-Easy-To-Use Dust Mitts slip over the Floor Brush or Fabric Tool. Use for bare floors, table tops, counters, walls, and ceilings. Some dirt will go through the Dust Mitt into the cleaner. Some will be held in the acrylic pile of the Mitt. After or during use, take the Dust Mitt off and clean with the vacuum hose. Mitts may be washed in warm water-detergent solution or in a washing machine"</span>

<span style="font-family: terminal, monaco;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"> </span><span>So yes, The floor Mitt is still sealed, while the Fabric tool one has been previously opened.</span>

Nice. I read about the pads in the Sears catalog. You should make a thread on it and post the manual if you could some time!

I'll compete in that Hoover/ Kenmore battle!!!

My buddy John Long, whom you refer as "Mr. Hoover" is much more into the upright sector than canister sector of Hoover in addition to other vintage appliance categories that Hoover used to offer such as irons, toasters, etc. Now he does have several Constellations, some Portapowers, Suitcases and many vintage straight suction machines. He has a couple of Celebrities and just got 2 vault power head canisters a Futura and a Spectrum. In uprights, there's very few models he doesn't have from early vintage machines, to 69's, 1070's, D.A.M's, Convertibles, Elites, etc.

What John doesn't have in power head canisters, I'll gladly supplement, just let me know the date. I'll fill the trunk. We can mix and match power nozzles and suction units!!!

Here's most of my Hoover power nozzles.

RE:Kenmore,

I'd love to scan the manual, I'm sure Automatic Ephemera could use it well. I have a bunch of manuals I need to scan, Just as soon as I can figure out how to adjust the scan quality (Not easy for a Guy used to plugging in a Typewriter and going from there)!

I have a copy-righted Hoover Convertible manual I can post, Automatic Ephemera couldn't use it due to the Copy-Right. Would you like that?

I have done 2 threads on the Kenmore before, One upon arrival, Second upon restoration. I completely tore down the motor and fixed a failed, dried bearing. Spins like a top now!

<span style="font-size: large; font-family: arial black, avant garde;">Now, Give me an F (Not, not for failing HOOVER Class)! F Is for FAIRFAX!</span>
