bvc heavy duty

This is my bvc other wise know as big Bertha .


she is the unsung hero of our workshop cleaning out evrything from top of the line Kirby's and Rainbows to lowly dirt devils


 


I took her out after the belt snapped and decided to give it a respray and good service. I'll post pics once the restoration is complete.


according to the stamp on i it is a 1975 model and still going strong.


 


They still make this model today although the tank is now bigger


 


What I love is the way it winds up to full power, this can be solved by putting a bigger capacitor on the motor but I kind of like the sound the way it is, almost like a jet engine

I am wondering if I should keep it orange or change the color, I am not to sure, it might look nice in Jet black with orange detailing

I was thinking of keeping it orange but the cost of orange piant is horrific, For my local auto shop to mix up the colour is going to cost me $87.00 its nuts , stain black will cost me $10.00

They say that red has more pigment which costs more (I think cars with red paint might have cost more when they were new, back in the day?) What about ordering paint online from somewhere? either way it will look good.

That is a beastly looking machine, makes modern shop-vacs look wimpy!

I used to buy and fix up cars for fun before I started working for my self, the most expensive paint I ever bought was for an Audi a4 , it was silver spec, marble black and cost me the equalvilent of $ 500.00 a liter , it was a special order color for the quatro I had to buy 3 liters and only just broke even when I sold the car , it was an awesome color.

As for this machine I love it , its a beast . its funny to see the neighbor's faces when I use it to clean the car ,,,, my vacuums bigger than yours
I just can't justify spending that on paint for it though, would rather buy more vacs.

Never thought it would have been a British company, I've not even heard of BVC myself... :S

I think that it would look good in black with Orange accents, such as painting the bin black but keeping the logo intact with an orange border (masked up and sprayed around), aswell as spraying most of the motor/fan assembly black, but keeping the belt cover panel orange, and then just add some orange bits for fun...

Oh, and add a new orange Commercial grade cable too...

So what kind of suction does it have and did it have any attachments when you got it and what is the hose made of thanks? Zach

suction is awsome , huge amount of airflow , It features a 3 stage ( 3 fans ) turbine driven by a seprate motor. 


It did not come with any hoses. when you bought it and now days aswell you buy just the machine , then you add what you need. most of the time these machines are stationary and fixed to a machine or something like that. I will measuer the power again and post it when I can. I would say iits as powrfull as 10 filter queens with ease. These machines are designed to run alla day non stop. I have a customer who has one , it runs 24 hours a day 7 days a week, the only time it switches off is once a year for  ts service , his one is 3 phase power though

BVC is the British Vacuum Cleaner Corp. Also known as Goblin. If you look on some of the older Goblin name plates they say BVC Goblin.

Hi Dougless  its nice to see that someone else knows about them. at one stage they were pretty popular here with big industrybut now as with every thing else the chinese have taken over with there cheaper made carbon copies.
