Buy old or new?

Hi,
I am tired of my Kenmore Progressive canister and I want a good upright again.
I recently purchased a Royal Commercial Lightweight for work. It is a Hoover Tempo in reality. It works very good on floors, but the tools are awful I purchased a longer hose and that helped but it is still tippy.I paid 250 with the extra hose.
I looked at a rebuilt Kirby, non-self propelled I think it was a Legend. That shop wants 379 with basic tools. It is a beauty.

I don't want anything bagless, and want something that will groom my carpet. My house is only a year and a half, and the carpets are looking really flat. I plan to clean them with my new Hoover Dual V if winter ever leaves WI.

So New or old? Comments?

Either

You could get away with either old or new, just get a good brand. The Kirby machines have an excellent reputation, I have two! Older Hoovers are also great deep cleaning carpet grooming machines.. The Miele machines are great too.

I love my new Hoover Platinum Bagged Upright! It is sooooo easy to use: lightweight, long cord, massive bag that is a snap to change, and pretty easy on the ears as far as noise is concerned. It is an excellent deep carpet cleaner with a 2 speed switch right on the front of the handle.

An excellent carpet cleaner that is a pleasure to use - what more can you ask for?

Hoover

I bought a Hoover Platinum, brought it and it would not start. The change bag light came on. Took it back and was told at Sears they have problems with them. Otherwise, would have liked it. Tried it in the store and was impressed. Chan

Awww...that's too bad. Mine works fine.

The other option is the Miele S7 Cat and Dog....if you don't need to carry it up and down long flights of stairs.

If you want something light and not too expensive, buy yourself a tried-and-true classic Eureka The Boss Dial-a-Nap bagged upright.

Go old. Get the Kirby, but not for that price. Seems a bit too much.

Where Kirbys are not good, is on commercial rubber backed rugs. They have too much suction, and will be super hard to push. Also on hardwood floors with throw rugs, you need to have another person stand on one end of the throw or they will be sucked off the floor.

Kirby

I bought the Kirby. It works and shines like new! I love the sound it makes when you adjust it to the right height. My carpets look better already! Nice tools, not like the junk they include these days.
