Did a little picking yesterday and found this old thing in a barn. Does anyone know why the plate would say that it was made by Hoover in England for Hoover USA??? Also, it was filthy and needed new brushes so I have taken the entire thing apart, cleaned thoroughly and now cannot figure out for the life of me how to reassemble the metal fan/top bushing assembly in the following pictures. It prevents the armature from turning freely when I try to assemble it. Any help would be greatly appriciated :)

I never understood the "Made in england for the US'

Both my industrial model 913s say that. I think a few other of my hoovers -may- say that too.

The larks are very cool vacuums indeed! I passed one up just like yours in the past and I kick myself for it.

My guess is it made work for us Brits... :P

Don't know anything about how to put the motor back together, but with a bit of trial and error it'll go back together I'm sure... :)

And a tip, take pictures as you disassemble, saves problems like this occurring... :)

David you are right... A little trial and error did pay off... So she is back in one piece and ready for duty! After a good cleaning, new brushes and a wire replaced it is as good as new!!!

Derek, very nice work!!  It doesn't look like the Lark was ever abused.  I love the turquoise color!!!

I would say late 50s. This is judging by the color, and styling, comparing it to other hoovers of the time.

It came out GREAT!

Thats what I thought! Its so "68 looking"

How about Greg's incredible 68 with his stunning Frigidaire custom imperial range.

I have one too!

Derek,

I have the exact same Lark. I found mine a couple years ago in a thrift store. It's still on the to-do list as far as cleaning & restoring. Love the turquoise color. Where did you find the brushes? I need to replace mine as the strip is cracked.

I'd say...

it's 1961ish, as the British version (the Hooverette) came out in that year. Very rare and nice looking vac, I've never seen one of these :)
