Brand New Compact on Ebay

VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

I have that same new leaf green Compact Electra with the same logo badge and the 'flower power' decal on the opposite side. Mine came with the Cyclonic Turbinette nozzle. It does NOT have a power plug outlet on the body where it was later placed under the bag door clamp in the indented channel on Electras. Perhaps this is the MOL/BOL model?

Interested buyers should check with the seller about the decal-ration and the power socket to be sure.

Very nice vacuum set tho, in the box with all the original ephemera and with an intact decal no doubt!

I'd get me one ...if I lived nearby to make a personal pick-up.

I couldn't resist. I had to have one too. I just had my new $400.00 Dyson break and the service call was nothing to brag about and they haven't answered the email I sent.
So much for Dyson customer service.
I was just looking at a Sears Store closing out sale this week and they wanted $99.00 for a Blue Magic canister made in China with all plastic tools.
The Compact is much like an Air-Way. They were simple in design but beautifully designed, and those unique floor tools!
Thanks for alerting us about the Compacts!

Brand new in box Compact

Forgot to ask. Does anyone know what years this machine was manufactured? I have liturature from 1976 showing the Compact and the Turbine nozzle for a whopping $439.00 which using the inflation calculator to be $1582.59 in 2007 money.

All gone.

Not sure when this model with the double front ball casters (the previous C6 had a single front caster) came out. 1971? C-7 or C-8. It came in light green, orange and jaundice yellow, all with the flower power decal.

My first thrift store vacuum cleaner back in the mid 70s was the yellow Electra C8 in trashed & bashed condition. It did/does have the PN socket and has since been repainted in hammertone slate gray.

The seller's excellent feedback shows he sold a similar lot a few weeks ago in the yellow. I do hope you all get green ones. The owner's manual that comes with it will surely have a copyright/printing date.

Please fellows, when you do get them post the pictures and someone with a scanner please post every bit of paper ephemera in the box.

I bought one last night! I was going to wait until the morning since I wasn't 100% sure, but then I figured why not? When am I gonna find a NIB vintage vacuum again? Plus, I do love Compact Electra's.

The whole thing only cost me about $30 out of pocket, after my gift cards and a 10% coupon that eBay sent. Now I can tell my sister "look what you helped pay for with that gift card!" lol.

Dave,
When I was very young, there used to be a TV show called "Queen for A Day" and one of the prizes was the Compact vacuum. Of course I just thought the winner was so lucky to win that new Compact.
I can still hear that show host say "You'll feel like a queen every time you use your Compact Vacuum Cleaner. The Compact vacuum works so you don't have to.Sometimes at the end of the show they would show the winner wearing a mink coat and holding the Compact wand. I wonder how many of those Compacts are still in use-lol

Has anyone used the "Turbinette" nozzle? I found a picture in Compact liturature dated 1974 with a machine the same color as the one pictures in the auction.

Congrats, all of you...

...who bought these beauties! Talk about a once-in-a-lifetime chance!

One of the two Compacts that I have came with all the instructsions, extra bags, the hassock -- and the original sales contract!

In 1962, someone paid just under $300 on installments for the machine.

The Turbinette works fine under lightly pressed use, as any new turbine powered brush does under high suction such as a Compact or a Filter Queen or the powerful 100"+ New Connie or Miele. Not so much with regular vintage vacs that pull in the 50-60" range. As with most plastic double turbine mini-nozzles they can get bogged and slow down on certain carpets and furniture fabrics - you want to maintain a light touch.

One the other hand - my Preco Power Brush has a similar small cast metal cylindrical turbine that acts as a flywheel while he Sunbeam Turbine Brush has a large heavy horizontal flywheel turbine like the Lux & FQ Polishers - these things can fluff a shag rug without stopping.

The KIRBY TurboTool is in a class all its own and I find it excellent - especially on a high suction machine it's like ...Jetson-Powered! Try it on your Compact or FQ and hang on...

I will always favour a metal flywheel turbine or a motor driven handi-nozzle such as a Kenmore Handimate or Elux Sidekick to an air-driven convenience brush.

And of course all the above suck up the lint and dust as they wipe & scrub and are so much handier to use than manhandleing a full size PN up the drapes or stair treads or Dad's Homburg Fedora or fur plastered dark suit in his rush out the door.

My vax

Has that one above (the blue one)

It is worthless. even with the lightest touch the brush stops.

Putting it on the carpet stops it cold. not doing anything at all. The bristles are like carpet too, too soft.

How is the connies?
