Toy Vacuums

I care!Why don't you?
Adin,If your Aerus office found toy Electrolux coin banks from the 60s--90s would you then care??
Toy vacs have been around since the beginning of real vacs, some offered by the major companies. Also salesman samples from an era when salesmen traveled by train with no room to carry a real vac.
I have seen several and have some but have never seen the above toy.Hopefully others will know more.

Steph...

It is indeed so post away!! Someone will have knowledge on some toy machines as there are people here who I am sure have a few. When I was a toddler I had a Fisher Price toy vacuum, it had styrofoam beads in it and when pushed they would move around. I wound up with a couple others when I was 7-8 I had a Dirt Devil Deluxe toy vac that took C batteries and also the Dirt Devil Hand vac. Surprisingly the hand vac actually worked and the upright was supposed to be able to suck stuff up but it didn't. I did recently pick up for a friend a Miele toy canister, and a Hetty toy as well. I don't know what he did with them or even if they are accessible but he isn't a member here and I don't think I will be able to get pictures.

Anyway... the Site is free unless you upgrade membership and everyone is always welcome to post topics. If they get discussed then great, if people just look at it and move on then it wasn't their cup of tea. I'm sure the thread will eventually resurface in the future.

@ crazykirbydude

I also care about toy vacuums and have a few of them myself (Little Tidy Miss anyone?) This site is for everyone and for all collectors!

Toy vacuums have a special place in the heart of many collectors, as they may remember using one in the time they were kids, or they always wanted one and never found one.

To me, I think there isn't enough discussion on toy vacuums here, and it is refreshing to see some variety being posted and not just discussions on Miele/Sebo/Kirby/Dyson.

Oh, sorry. I was under the impression that not many people cared about toy vacs on here. My apologies. Since we're on the topic of toy vacuums, I would like to share the toy vacs I had when I was younger.

I care

Toy vacuums are what we may have originally collected.  They are our memories.  Maybe possibly they should go in the household section to appease some viewers.  I personally have no problem with you collecting and discussing on this forum as long as they are within the last 20 years.

I already apologized, now may we please drop the subject? I was under the false impression that most people here didn't care for toy vacuums. I was just trying to keep this thread from turning into one of St3phxxx's other posts where she pestered Eluxfan71.

that thread is done and over with...

However Adin, My sister when she was younger, had that same Dirt Devil with the detachable hand vac. Surprisingly it actually worked. My question to you is... Did the Dyson actually pick stuff up? As far as the last DD pic you posted, I remember seeing those in Walmart or Toys R Us when I was younger, they had the push button on top where it only made noise.

The Dyson only picked up from the hose, not the floor head. Back then, believe it or not, I was a huge Dyson fan, and I loved that toy DC14! Boy, how some people change!
I liked the Dirt Devils better because they actually picked up fluff through the floor head. They even had little brushrolls driven by little wheels! If you ran them over the rug enough, there would be a little bit of fluff! I remember that the Classic Upright had a small shakeout bag, and the other one had a little compartment that you empty. The Dyson just had a small compartment at the bottom of the bottom of the cleaner for a dust trap. The Dirt Devil bagged upright had the best filtration because it had a small cloth bag, while the others just had a plastic screen to keep big stuff out of the motor.

i have one of those dc14s and the thread about eluxfan71 is finished and defunct toy vacuums are adorable and some are very rare thank you all 4 your posts on this thread x

Thanks for that explanation, I always wondered how those toy vacuums worked that advertised "real suction power".

The Tidy Miss I have was made before safety laws obviously, but it is interesting in the fact it really is "just like what mommy uses" (so the ad claimed). It is a dirty fan design, and has a mini plastic bladed fan like in Hoover Convertible styled uprights. I can;t use mine yet because the bag needs sewing and the plastic bottom of it needs to be kind of squashed back down carefully as it got bent the wrong way at some point and you can't push the little vac without it popping off the cleaner. It also has a thick rubberized cord like on a clothes iron, which is an interesting feature, for a little bit of safety.

It originally sold for $10.50 in 1948, which included tax and shipping. That works out to $110.77 in today's money! You can see why they have become so rare. Not everyone could afford something so extravagant. I guess you could compare it to the toy Dysons today which cost somewhere around there at retail price.
