I'm not a fan of ironing and don't iron but I found this Black and Decker Classic Iron really interesting. I had no idea they still made one like this. It reminds me of the beige ones my grandmothers had from the 80s with the orange lettering.

And it also looks a lot like the old GE irons, that Black and Decker probably got the designs for when they bought GE small appliance line in 1984.

That GE was the one, 1962 I think after baby sitter broke one she loved. I do not remember it, too young promise. She said the handle was ruby red and I think see through??

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that the present iron is made in China. And as such, actual features working/leaking will be variable from unit to unit.  That's why there are significant spreads in the reviews....almost opposite opinions.

Guess you keep sending them back until you get a good one.

Iron

We had the GE version too, lasted forever. I was just a little kid when we went to the store to buy it. When I was 18, I bought my mom a new Sunbeam, she was thrilled. She kept that old GE as a spare, since she ironed every Monday night, after washing all day. Those were the days..........................

I have used them all

At the moment I'm using a gold 1965 Mary Proctor,my very favorite iron of all is the Presto with the pushbuttons...it puts out a TON of steam and really works well on heavy fabric, the GEs are good old irons, my Mother used one about 25 years.I got a bunch of irons from Mike Hays and then got a bunch more in Ron Jones stuff, I even have a GE with a PURPLE handle!

RE Daily Driver Iron!

John...I'm surprised at you not using a HOOVER iron..LOL!...Actually the Hoovers are really good irons.
