Black and Decker Canister (Canadian) Post initial restoration...

So as promised, I shot a whole bunch of photos showing the revived Black and Decker Canister that I found in Petrolia during our mini meet last Sunday.

After doing a quick scan of the whole deal, some things had to be found to make it semi-normal and complete.

As you can see I was ableto save the wands to an extent, they're not perfecct, but hey...what cna you do when you do not have a motorized buffing machine. That said, I'm VERY pleased with the outcome.

Sorry about the pics, I tired to get them to do various things, but I gave up figuring that anyone who sees them will get the gist of things....

Like Roberts Apex Wash-A-Matic bouncing washer which he found and is displayed over on automatic washer, this is MY holy grail. Theres only one other like it, and that is owned by I believe Doug in Sasketchewan, Moose Jaw Canada.

The pic of Doug Smith's gold and chrome Regina is the same vacuum that my mom purchased around 1970-71, used for 1 year and got fed up with it. She then purchased another Filter Queen with power nozzle which is the same brand of vacuum she had before she bought the Regina. The Regina is still at the family cottage in the storage room of the sauna.

Good for you with your beautiful new find, I can see why you got all worked up over it. It is stunning! And nowhere near the tragedy I expected. I still think northern thrift shops beat the ones down here.

You can say that again. As I drove home and Rusty napped, or was just quiet...I was mapping out in my mind how I was gonna tackle it. It seems to have worked out just fine, and thankfully you see the results.

Gary, Too bad your mom had such results with her Regina. It seems that for the few positive attributes the machines had, were out shadowed by others. Like wands that fell apart when you cleaned with it. But anyone who thought honestly that this would give the same results as a Filter Queen, should have expected some comedy as he or she used it. It's like apples and oranges or night and day: nothing like the other. Consequently tho...the fact that it's still running up at your cottage still says something. To me it does. It might have crap tools but it still runs....not to bad for a almost now 40 year old vacuum cleaner.

Alan, Thank you for the kind words. I did give it all I had on Monday and you can see what became of it. If you look at Dave's pics of me with it that Sunday to what it became, was kinda in my eyes a herculean feat. My outlook is, I've been tinkering and restoring these things for fifteen solid years now. I should have some tricks up the sleeve, and rabbits to pull from my ....well you get the drift.

And on the thrift stores. Well we do have a few that pay out, but not like the Petrolia place. At least none that I'm aware of around my parts of Mich. That said, I could have spent HOURS there, and I'm sure Dave could have as well. However, our third party kept doing a pee pee dance because he was bored, or tired or hungry and wanted to leave, so we weren't even close to truly being done, yet we had to be accommodating to everyone. Hopefully I can convince Dave or Pete to a go back sometime soon. Heck that place is so engraved in my mind, I would go back on my own from Ann arbor just to sift thru more things that I did not see!!!!!

Dave, what can I say. I just went for it, and did what I could. As I said I'm pleased with the outcome...I do wish to thank you and Pete for suggesting the going to that Petrolia Junque place. Had it not been for that thought, I would never have found it, and after more years it would have turned into a pile of shit dust.

So thanks again for piloting me to the promised land.

The Black and Decker experience I believe falls under the heading of serendipity. Something or someone you are seeking, and without thinking of it, there it is! After years of looking, waiting, and wondering. I'm still waiting after 35 plus years for my dream machine, which isn't a vacuum cleaner, although there are those I still want.

Wow, very nice job Chad and to think I've been seeing that old B&D sitting rusting away outside for 3 years.

I noticed in the pic above of Dougs "Bradford" model, WT Grant owned the Zellers Dept store chain in the 50's thru 70's or 80's here in Canada so Zellers (still in existance, one in Sarnia) sold Bradford named appliances.
Hudson Bay dept store (The Bay with Baycrest,Beaumark appliances) bought Zellers from WT Grants

I agree with you about the Regina. If my mom had her choice she would have never bought it. She had always been happy with her FQ. She just thought something was wrong with it because we had new wall to wall carpet installed and the FQ (no power nozzle) just couldn't pick everything up and of course just using the regular rug nozzle was quite a chore. She thought getting a new vac would eliminate that problem. She had an electrolux salesman demonstrate the '88 model (I think) with power nozzle. I remember it being red and white and the hose did not have the built in wiring. My dad said there was no way he was paying $275 for a vacuum so that's why my mom ended up with the $100 Regina. She hated it right from the beginning. Then after a year or so, my dad was off on a hunting trip so my mom went out and bought another FQ but with the power nozzle.

I understand tho.... Seems that every record player I've ever found is busted in some way. And to fix it...NAH!! Just toss it and find another garage ale...LOL!! Not the vintage ones anyway...
