Bissell Rewind Power Helix

Well guys, for those of you who knew my previous plan of buying a brand new Hoover platinum lightweight bagged upright, its been scrapped. I realized how much money I have in my bank, and that must be put towards a car, as my dad thinks I should buy one on my own. So, I decided a cheap Bissell should get me through. I think the helix system is quite interesting, though I am unsure if it works or not. What do you all think of Bissell's? I know there not great, but it's got a lot of bells and whistles for the price. Despite its awful filtration system I think it may do okay at least until I get a job and can afford something better.

My Vote...

For a reliable, low maintenance machine would be the Eureka Boss SmartVac. Its a higher filtration bagged machine, you can find bags everywhere. Best part it cleans insanely well from carpets to above floor, the belt is also super durable since its made out of kevlar and reinforced with nylon webbing. You can pick up a refurb for about $73 depending on the tax in your state. If you're worried about the quality I picked up one and its been perfect, you'd never be able to tell. Overall it cleans well, bags are easy to find (and cheap), its durable, it cleans bare floors, has amazing quality tools, and can be had for less than the Bissell. Only thing is it doesn't come with the turbo brush they picture, but its not that big of a deal for the price. They even have a deal set up where you can get a Bissell stick vac for free. I'll post a link for you.

For a while I thought Bissell's bagless system was "neater" to empty compared to other manufacturers. The filters are easy to replace if needed and I really like the washable foam prefilter. So I got one for a friend to replace his horrible Eureka Power Plus. I spent about $119 for this gorgeous blue and neon green Bissell. It looked fabulous, 15" wide path and I was very proud of myself. I unboxed it, assembled it and ran it. After about 5 minutes of use, my suction was greatly decreased and the entire outside of the machine was coated in a layer of dust. I double checked to ensure I installed everything right and even checked the installation sheet. Everything looked fine, I had worked on Bissells before so I knew what I was doing. Well back to the store it went.
The next day I showed up with a lower priced bagged Hoover Tempo upright. Unboxed, assembled, tried out. Worked terrific, cleaned his whole place. That was about 2 years ago. He still has the machine and loves it!!

Zach, you remember owning a Smart Vac once don't you? I found it sad you took it back when the hose broke, as it's a nice cleaner. I had the older green one when I was younger, and my dad got it back in 2003. The thing got removed from the family in 2007.

Durango159, I agree, the Tempo is the best vacuum you can find for $99 and under. I don't own a neon green and blue Bissell. I know there is a way to keep Bissells lasting longer-proper maitenance.

I like the smart vac and tempo better because there bagged and really a lot better built. However, as I'm sure we all know, every once in a while you get the urge to buy a total pile of garbage vacuum just because its cool. I think that's what this is. Plus it's bag less and even if the filters need washing almost every time after use, its a cool system. I just love the looks of it. I am now ducking and running, nobody hire an assassin. I know, a member of the club has taken to liking a Bissell haha. Anyway, after that little tangent. What is the difference between the "Bissell Rewind Power Helix" and the "Bissell Rewind Power Helix Plus" sold by HSN? Other than color.

Base model, seems to have same exact features. The plus would go better with a spot lifter power brush I also plan on buying. We have a little green with the turbo brush, it works worse than scrubbing with the standard upholstery nozzle. The power brush should be better than our original battery spot lifter and the little green, albeit has a manual pump and lower power most likely.

The Tempo is actually easier to do above floors than with a regular Windtunnel. Hoover's regular Windtunnel series uses a stretch hose that sucks back into the machine and gives no room to work without machine falling on you. The Tempo has a cheap hose that doesn't suck in. However it is still extremely short. The suction and attachments are good though. With any Tempo or Windtunnel I would recommend an extension hose. Can get from Hoover or go to any dealer and have them create a hose with adapters and handles. I think my charges a little over a dollar a foot for hose.

But hey for under $100, the power that this vacuum has, I'm not complaining but an attachment hose being short!!

My primary vac is a canister with power head. So most of my attachment usage is solved with the canister. Or lately my "Goto" vacuum as posted in another thread is my Hoover PowerDrive. Sometimes I also use a Bissell Power Force. For $40 you can't beat the power of that machine. It is a very lightweight, powerful vacuum that is less expensive than a stick vac!!

Are decent machines for attachment cleaning. I was merely comparing the Tempo to the SmartVac which has IMO, a better easier to work with hose than both the Tempo and the WT. It also seems to have better attachments.

Agreed, the Bissells are cheap and powerful.
