Bison on Ebay

Im new to collecting vacs, did see a Bison on Ebay, these are very sought after I thought. What do you guys think about this one?

Did you see the motor housing? Do you have any idea how hard that would be to replace?

you also need to notice how very extremely rare bison are. AND THIS ONE IS BRAND NEW!

Im with Joe on this one...

...hey, I like fixing stuff, doing a good repair. But if the platisc is compromised by chemicals or other things he sprayed into it -- this thing is in trouble. Especially regarding the motor housing.

You can fix it...it will work for awhile, then a new crack or break will occur, most likely near the prior repair. It's the same issue when plastic or vinyl hoses start splitting like cheap chinese underwear. Once they start, it's the beginning of the end. I've a Kenmore that's about to be gutted for parts because of this.

I'm with the naysayers...

When I saw that Bison, I was like WOW!!!! NIB!!!! then started wondering what the "catch" was....

Sure enough....busted/dissolved housing. No thanks! Not only does that defeat the purpose of being NIB, but where the heck are you going to find new housing for it? I mean I guess if you've got a parts machine laying around it'd be a good buy, but still not NIB anymore. If you don't have the parts to fix it, kiss it goodbye. The auction even claims that the plastic is very fragile and will break if you touch it!

If you read further, it says it looks like some oil dripped out of the motor or rear axle section......possibly a blown seal or something? It looks like it's got a transmission or something. I don't know anything about Bison themselves, but the warning signs on that one are pretty clear!

well...

still it is new. NEW!!!! why are you so afraid of it? Most people here would never use it anyways, so why does that matter, you will probably never have to look at that piece.

This may be why bisons were not around for that long- they did have issues.

Bisons have to be one of the rarest brands out there, certainly rarer than a NIB lux or kirby.

I know a fellow that's got the same green bison that's missing all it's accessories except the hose and more importantly, it's brush head - I mean the whole nozzle that clamps to the motor.

Sadly, like this damaged Bison complete it's all in locations too far flung for me to pursue. :-(

I've emailed this auction posting to him, one of the few who has what it takes to bring this Bison back to new condition.

There you go Brandon! Bid on both, and you'll have a really nice Bison, and an almost complete parts machine to spare! I'm with everyone else about passing on that first Bison, UNLESS you've got another one like it (or can get another one like it) and use that one for parts. It's right here on Long Island, so I could even go and pick it up once the auction ends. Mine is a Centurion, the cleaner and all the trim is brown, so I think I'll pass.

...$200 plus shipping for a totaled Bison and a donor machine. At that price, and amount of work, they can keep on being rare, and I'll be content to read about them in history books. (Paperback ones, from the clearance rack -- I'm cheap)
