I didn't know about that feature, pretty neat. Kirby ought to give it a look. There is no way to adjust mine to do throw rugs, it eats them every time.

I’d say Kirby wants as least to do with this vacuum for a reason. There are others that know a lot more about the history of the Bison, and you can probably search the archives for a much better idea of it, but as I understand it, the person who invented the Bison used to work for Kirby and decided they could build a “better mousetrap” so to speak. Needless to say, the Bison, while it was super powerful, and yes it does sound like a jet taking off Barry, but they were also notoriously unreliable, sometimes even breaking down during a demo! That certainly didn’t help their sales, then the final nail in the coffin was when Kirby sued them for copyright infringement! This is one vacuum cleaner that’s rare for all the wrong reasons! LOL!

Wonder if the salesman tried demoing the Bison at its lowest speed-vacuuming a rug. This could put too much of a load on the motor at low speed.Keep in mind the motor cooling fan is turning slower,too-so the motor heats up and not enough air to cool the motor-so it burns up.The variable speed should be used in its CANISTER mode. This was the sort of problems with the High-low switch on that Diamond G.The video-wjhen they demenstarted the speed control was just like "Agent JZ" on you tube-he rebuilds jet engines. They sound like that Bison on the test stands.

Rheostat....I never knew that's what those were called. The only vacuum I know of from modern times with one, is this Sunpentown. Consequently, this vacuum is known for motor fires, likely the same issue that plagued the Bison with its rheostat.

I show it at 2:59 in the video if the link doesn't take you to that spot:
