Hello everyone, What is the best vacuum that is on the lighter side (as far as weight) for shag carpeting? Thank you.

I'd recommend going to a local vacuum shop or several and try out the vacuums that you would be satisfied with on shag. Some may even have shag rugs that you can demo out and see if they'd be light enough for you. The brands I'd consider are the higher end ones such as Sebo, Miele, Riccar, Lindhaus, etc.

For shag?

I'd say the Soniclean soft carpet would be a good bet. The bags are a little costly and you won't have local dealers for them but they're made to be light and work with thicker pile carpets

Idk

That I'd recommend sonic clean it's light and similar to the riccar supralite 4 that I used to have. It got very bogged down and didn't do a great job cleaning.
The riccar supralite with a metal brushroll and lifetime belt is probably the best lightweight but I wouldn't reccomend it.
Get a sanitaire even a 5 amp classic iirc is 13lbs and it will do good. The 7 amp sanitaire is what I'd recommend.

I agree,

Les is right. I had shag carpeting in my last place, and when I got my first Sanitaire I noticed how much better the carpets looked. The red 7amp SC888 that I have is a beast! Powerful and light weight too.

I second the Sanitaire recommendation. Go for the simplest Sanitaire with a Dial-a-Nap height adjuster. If you can find one with the ST top fill bag set-up, like the SC888, that would be best. There is another model with a grey plastic motor hood that may be even lighter in weight.

These are classic Eureka uprights that always did well on shag carpets.

If it's a true shag carpet, not the shorter frieze variety, then you would only want to use a straight suction canister on it. A rotating brush would damage it. There are shag rug carpet tools for canisters.

We had a very thick shag rug in our basement den in the 1970’s. Our Eureka Upright 2083 Gold CordAway Rugulator upright cleaned it really well when setting the Rugulator to a proper height. It never damaged that carpet. Current Sanitaire clones of the 2083 should perform similarly.
