Best Bagless?

My dad is on a search to replace his HORRIBLE Bissell vacuum and his only requirement is that the machine be bagless.... So much for my input! So, what is the best bagless machine available? Are the Dyson machines any good? Thanks!

To be perfectly honest

I don't like any of the bagless vacuums, they are all nasty. I would suggest a Filter Queen, Silver King, or something like that. Or, there are always those Hoover and Eureka commercials with the dirt cup thing.

My question, why does he need bagless so desperately?

If you must go "Bagless-The Sanitaire or Koblentz "Dump cup" uprights are good.Better than the Dyson.Otherwise I would stick to bagged vacuums.And for best results and least odors-empty the dump bins or cloth bags after EACH major use-do not store dirt and ust in the bin or bag.

I am ready for beeing criticized harshly, but...

I just discovered that the Amway ClearTrak, and all of the parts for it are still available. I would say that this was the best built bagless made. They are still somewhat messy to empty, but they are made pretty well and have decent filtration. And they do clean well.

My feelings are, and I am sure some will diagree but I always tell friends that if they are hell bent on having a bagless (and why some are I will never know)then they should go for the Dyson. I have several friends that have them and just love them. It really is easy to empty and seems to just be a lot less mess than other bagless machines I have used. Terry

I agree with Terry that Dyson is the best of the bagless vacs. There are others: Eureka, Hoover, Bissell. But they are just plain nasty with dirt and grime when they come into our shop for repair. Dysons seem cleaner and actually have a pretty decent repair record. If only a bagless will do, then go with Dyson.

As much as I begrudge saying it if you MUST go bagless Dyson is the best of the bunch IMHO.

Dyson all the way

Our (vccc members) club was GIVEN a DC07 Dyson by James Dyson himself, five years ago. It's serial number is 1. yes, 1.
It was the first one in the U.S. other than the home trial models. We (vccc) have used it every year for our cleaning contest. It's picked up MORE dirt at every meeting than ANY other vacuum there. It's NEVER lost power, and still peforms brilliantly. While we (vccc) love the vintage machines, it's only ignorance of the machine that makes people not like Dysons. In 20 years, the young club members are going to be 'oohing' and 'ahhing' over them. No one's mother had a Dyson while they were growing up. That's why we (vccc members) love the old Rainbows, Electrolux, Hoover, and other machines so much. While I love my Royals (the power cast especially), the Hoovers (my vintage ones as well as the new Connie), and my Lux's (especially the new UltraLux Anniversary model), The Dysons solve the ONE problem shared by all vintage machines - loss of suction as the bag fills. Our club Dyson has proven, beyond a SHADOW of a doubt, that they are great machines that perform exactly as advertised.
