Bernina 6100C Motor +(?)

Thinking of going with this stone since it is 5/8" x 1-1/8" x 4-3/4".
Probably could use it without needing to cut it down.

That said, in the first YT video you linked, a couple people recommended fine sandpaper as a better answer. Thoughts on that?

Decided to try this without the stone.

Removed the motor, cleaned the commutator with WD-40 & toothbrush and then used paper towels to remove most debris and wipe it dry. Removed the brushes and sanded them slightly with fine sandpaper.

Used the sand paper (with the vacuum off) to manually spin and sand the commutator until it shined. Cleaned everything up and re-assembled it.

When it started there were still sparks, but they died down as it ran. It still smelled of smoke but that seemed to go away after a minute. The commutator got slightly dirty again almost immediately.

Ran the vacuum this weekend. It started with the smoky smell and that went away after a couple minutes. When I got to the second room it had a new harsher fresher burning smell and I powered it off.

I think I need an expert to work on this. (Picture is after cleaning...)

When I polish the commutator with a seating stone, I'd do it while the machine is running. I've never done it with a sand paper before but I feel like I don't need to cause my way works just fine and never had any problems afterwards. Did you wash your black filters to make sure you haven't had any new burning odors?

No, I didn't wash the filters, but the burning did eventually smell sharper and fresher.

I have to admit, I'm a bit too scared to take a stone to this while it's running. It's extremely powerful and tries to fly around when turned on if it isn't being held firmly.

At this point you're right that it'd be best to have someone else work on the motor.
