DC07
Before I got my Dyson DC07 Animal 13 years ago, my family was using filter-based bagless vacuums, which were dominant from the early to mid-2000s. Now the DC07 has been our daily driver for a very long time, until my mom took it with her upon my parents' divorce 7 years ago. Since then, I've used other bagless vacuums until I gifted her with a Hoover Air Steerable a couple years ago. I then got the Dyson back and returned it to its rightful owners (my family).
Mine has gotten some abuse, including sucking up plaster dust and carpet powder, but the motor still runs perfectly. The clutch and HEPA filter were replaced a few years ago, which was a good move on my part. However, there is a big rip in the hose, and the pre-motor filter is dark and faded. I ordered replacements for both of those parts late last year, but haven't gotten around to actually replacing them yet.
I'm not sure about the modern Ball ones, though. I can't decide whether or not I want one, as the plastic on them feels creaky and cheap compared to my DC07. It's rather disappointing for such a pricey vacuum.
As for cordless Dyson models, I ditto what bagintheback said. I personally would not want to buy a cordless vacuum that has planned obsolescence. But my DC07 Animal is a tank, so I'm going to keep it for as long as I possibly can.
