Beautiful Eureka 2042D

Well here is a mint condition Eureka model 2042d. As i recollect, these old 2000 series Eurekas are hard to find especially in like new condition.

This model is 3.5 amps and runs perfect and even has its original metal fan!.

SUPER SMOOTH AND QUITE.

it has the extinct 3.5 amp pancake motor.
All parts are ORIGINAL. Also have a vg1 brushroll.

has the classic nice old eureka whine.

I like that style of hood on Eurekas and Sanitaires, I have one from a Sanitaire S670/677 on my ZC-880 (I wanted a headlight!!) cos it looks better than the plain, non-headlight SC-88x style hood...

In my eye, that Eureka would look good with a blue bag to match the base, but that's just me, I like blue...

Tis indeed a thing of beauty!

You'll be glad to know that in Consumer Reports 1974 ratings of vacs, the 2042 was not only the top upright, it merited the Best Buy award for offering great performance at a very good price. I think the ranking was something like: 1. Eureka 2042, 2. Eureka 2082, 3. Eureka 2072

Eureka really did well in that year's vac tests - maybe someone could scan the report if they still have it. (We would see if my memory serves me correctly!!!!!)

Bill - I think the Vibra Groomer brush roll was introduced in 1973, when Eureka was able to take advantage of the expiry of Hoover's patent on beater bar brush rolls. Before that year, no one was allowed to put bars on their brush rolls.....if I remember correctly.

Wow, that brings back memories. A next door neighbor of ours bought that exact model in either 1975 or 76. I went with them when they bought it,,they knew i was vacuum crazy so they took me along to "Help" with the new vacuum.
They bought it from a Woolco Store,,,Woolco was the larger version of Woolworths, that sold appliances, clothes, ect.
I remember using this machine when it was brand new out of the box,,,yes, it definatly had the distinct Eureka Hmmmmm to it.I remember they did not buy the hose or tools with it,,they had an orange Hoover Portable Suitcase for above the floor cleaning. HA,,good 70s memories.

Brian - yes those Eureka 2000 series uprights had a certain "hum" to them!! I don't know about you, but they also had a certain Eureka aroma when fresh out of the box! That aroma actually stayed with the vac and it's tools well beyond the sale date!

Yes, most DEFINATLY had a 'New Eureka Smell" to it,,,i remember it distinctly! All we had at home at the time(1975-76) was an old 60s Hoover Connie, and a Hoover DAM Power Drive that was nothing but trouble. How i wished i could have taken that new Eureka home with me!
