Hi guys,

I've read a number of posts where people have said they've restored the motor on a Convertible, including repacking the bearings with grease. Could somebody tell me when that becomes necessary and guide me to instructions on how to go about it?

The two machines I'm working on seem to run ok. The motors work and I haven't noticed any irregular sounds as they slow down to a stop. I don't know that they even need that level of maintenance, but I'd appreciate the advice.

Cheers,

Nick

Chances are...

...if your machines are not making any unusual noise, starting and winding down smoothly, the bearings most likely have "had" sufficient lubrication. But gauging from the age of the machines, it might be a good idea to disassemble and repack the bearings regardless, due to the fact that grease can dry out over time.
See thread #4269 8-28-08 in the archives for instructions.
As a footnote, if the machines are to be displayed and never to be used again, this might be a moot point. However, I like the reassurance of knowing that my machines are well-lubed and ready for service at any time regardless of age.
