Bagless Kirby Conversion

I really can't think why anyone would want these! Why ruin the performance and appearance of a perfectly good Kirby by sticking those monstrosities on it?

Why???

was the question I had. Just why? Were not the original Kirbys "bagless" or at least shake and dump. This contraption just has a filter to clog and a lot less performance.

odd....id read or heard that there was an improvment in performance...but was used to see dirt that was left behind from other vacs, as a tool for testing i could see it worth while. use some no clog dacron as a pre-filter ...ez to clean.
as a tool it makes sense...saves on kirby bags

'use some no clog dacron as a pre-filter...'

You'll have to tell me more about 'dacron' - how does it work? Why doesn't it clog? If it does work, why isn't everyone using it? How can a material filter not clog? It seems to me that either it's trapping dust particles and clogging, or it's letting them through. I'm genuinely interested to hear more about this.

With regards to the bagless conversion...even if, and that's a BIG if, there's any initial improvement in performance, it will not last. The filter they use will clog. A filter-based bagless system has a separation-efficiency of less than 50% - meaning that more than half the dust you pick up will need to be held back by the filter, rather than the cyclone system. A filter-based cyclonic machine, loaded with 125g of dust, will lose 80% of it's airflow.

Why buy a bagged cleaner, then bolt on some botched home-converter contraption!? If you want to save on bags, invest in a decent bagless machine, designed for the job!

I would guess that using this would void Kirby's warranty, too, since it's a non-gen part?

I can see the practical use...

when you have lots of animals and go through lots of bags. Then it would make sense. Although it would be VERY high maintence to keep clean and properly running, I think if this was the case it could out-perform the bag method.

I have only just recently heard of this conversion, and it was from my fathers girlfriend's neighbor, Mr. Keeler who is the man who makes these. He told me of them when I had him replace the fan on my Legend II last week.
This is best suited to people with shedding pets who would frequently need to change bags.
I think it is a good concept, it's just not for me.

dacron is in use...its a prefilter cover on shopvacs...a simple little shake of it if needed and its clean and ready for service...ive used in a bagless as a filter cover..in the bin..also use on w-tnl bagless can as pre filter cover at the shop.

for testing or seeing first hand leftover// to save on bags for the kirby id say yes its a good tool...but day to day use not so much...nothing more than a cool little tool to have and use for seeing the dirt a kirby can find ...can make at home real cheap.

Dacron

Why isn't it more widely used - if it offers genuine benefits, surely the industry should be jumping all over it?

thats why i said for TESTING..only to see what others left behind...it not a perm conversion...wont affect warr...because they wont know...a divice for fun...to save on bags...then you convert it back for reg use...its something different, thats all

dont know why...works for shop vac...so i figured id try it on other stuff...along the same idea of pantyhose over a filter will extend the life of a expensive nla filter...not on the market..not practical. but it works.

To my mind, the number of people wanting to use this device for 'fun', or as a demo tool, is not a particularly sizeable market niche.

If you want to save on bags, get a bagless machine. Don't castrate a Kirby.

and i said thats why you can make it yourself..for ones self..real cheap...no market...no niche.. no nobody.

what a person does to their kirby is there business...if you own it you can do what you want..freedom of choice, its a simple rubber hose that goes over the part that the emptor connects to..thats it. ez on ez off...no harm done .not a scratch..or a bump. if it did i wouldnt even consider it...but it was just a thought....a neat little idea...that could be fun to try for some people...not all .

'what a person does to their kirby is there business...i

Thanks for clearing that up! I'll get back to my crayons...

Let me think about it... ok done!

That would be the first thing I would buy for a new Kirby Sentria.... if it had been burned to scrap in a house fire... LOL. I heard that the bin on this thing is from a Eureka or something...

I'd also put ford tempo wheels on my BMW when I get one someday... :P

"I'll get back to my crayons..."

I hope those crayons that you're using are Crayola, the other others snap when you press down too hard. ;)

Back to the topic of bagless conversions for Kirbys, in my opinion it's just a flat out waste of time.

I would question the efficiency because the filter will clog quickly. The filter has less surface area than the full size bag. When using the filter contraption you will still have to deal with the dust when you empty the dirt cup.

The older Kirbys had a shake out bag with sani-emptor that worked quite well, though filtering abilities were limited. The new Micron Magic bags are excellent in filtering, and air flow.

I guess it would be fun if you want to see the fluff.
