Hi All,
Looking for a secondary vacuum to replace my Dyson DC41...I'm over bagless! Aside from the Miele S7 (too heavy) is anyone aware of another good bagged upright vacuum with swivel steering? Thanks in advance!

The Sebo looks nice! I haven't had an Oreck since about 2006 and it was a white XL upright so not sure how the newer ones perform. I've read good things on here and was tempted to order the Oreck Axis when QVC had them on because I believe the new swivel models cost upwards of $500.

I guess it depends on what you want and what you are prepared to pay.

If you just require a lightweight bagged swivel upright without a hose and solely for carpets then the Oreck or any other brand in the U.S could satisfy that requirement.

The Felix however has a short hose on board. I'd say and to use an American term which actually fits the short hose on board, the Felix has more of a detail hose on board rather than a full stretch hose.
Its PN head also has a handy brush roll on/off button and a manual 4 height adjustment. If you have never had SEBO before, their power nozzle ET-1 head is well designed and even has a side button release for the entire brush roll that comes out for cleaning threads from etc. The Felix isn't as light as Oreck though, but it is certainly more nimble than a Miele S7 IMHO. I don't miss my S7 at all.

Doh I didn't read your whole profile - you have obviously owned SEBO before with the X4 but the Felix doesn't come with auto sensor head, but similar brush roll.

I find the X4 to be lighter to push than the Felix even though they have similar weights and the hose on board the Felix is slightly smaller compared to the X series. I own both but I still prefer the wand & hose set up on the X series compared to the Felix, but again reiterates what I pointed out where the Felix hose is more of a detail hose than full stretch.

I second sebo_fan's choice with the SEBO Felix. I've had one for nearly 7 years now and just love it's ease of use, excellent performance, easy to maintain and cheap to run (bags...filters etc...). I wouldn't change it at all. I don't miss emptying or owning a bagless vacuum now at all, and have seen the benefits of going back to a bag machine. Plus they don't really loose suction as is always mentioned. Well the Felix doesn't! The Felix is very nimble and steers around objects and glides under low furniture fine. I use mine most days to pick up pet hair and debris the ET-1 power head grooms the carpet very well and makes pet hair pick up a dream! Had no issues with it to date!

Give one a demo in a vacuum shop.

It also depends on how much money he wants to spend. I would imagine that the Oreck is a good deal cheaper than a SEBO Felix in the US. German vacs do have a price premium over there. Oreck, now being a TTI company, will undoubtly sacrifice quality when they get moved to Chinese production, and probably get cheaper to buy as well.

The one vacuum cleaner I think a lot of us can agree on, that is basically what we call the full package is the sebo felix. It is the avatar on the "contemporary " forum thread. It is well engineered, quality built vacuum made in Germany where they know what they are doing, it is bagged with a good filtration system, bags are cheap, has great suction, terrific agitation, lightweight, easy to use, quiet and has swivel steering, and in hindsight, it good value for money. Comes in great colours and fetching designs all backed by a great customer service and 5 year guarantee.

Okay I am a sucker for sebo but I love their products and their felix is one of their best. It has been around for nearly 10 years now and has proved very reliable. Sebo updated the model in 2010 or 2011 whenever it was and sorted out the temperamental electrical connector for the swivel head and fitted a more efficient, quieter suction motor and introduce some new designs.

Steve

You are 100% WRONG Oreck is here to stay being made in the USA please stop spreading rumors that you know absolutely NOTHING about . Many Hoover vacuums will also be built in Cooksville TN !!!

Orecks swivel vacuums are great machines . I own over 400 vacuums and REFUSE to own Sebo they are NOT good vacuums . Nothing about any Sebo impresses me and I could purchase any Sebo I please but refuse that brand along with Miele older Miele vacuums were great nothing newer than 2003 is worth purchasing a Miele .

Dan I do sympathise with you on one hand - after all both you and I share adoration for the Hoover Signature models - however, in the UK we just aren't that lucky to get so many bagged uprights from other brands.

I guess if we had such a large market with as many bagged uprights, we'd probably shift base and like other brands. IMHO SEBO for me are the best because they mimic the same kind of build quality and durability than say, an old Hoover Junior or Senior (convertible as you know in the U.S)

I agree that old Miele cylinder vacs were the best, but by god they're heavy to pull around as well.

Thanks everyone for all of your input. My experience with Sebo is that they're pretty well-built and when they're working, they do a wonderful job. Unfortunately, the X4's auto adjust sensor stopped working and it's just been sitting in my parents' basement unused for the last 4 years. Last year I visited an Oreck store and the guy said that because I had frieze in my family room, I'd have to get a Magnesium model? I'd prefer something that resembled the Pilot/Axis models if I go the Oreck route. You guys have given me a lot to think about! I appreciate it!

I'm with you oliveoiltinfoil I love my SEBO Felix having had it now for nearly 7 years over that time I've come to love SEBO as a brand and their other models and products too. Mine is from 2007 when I purchased it, it's the Classic version really pleased with it. Until then never heard of SEBO until I got mine and also my Aunty mentioned she had one (X4 Extra). I'm glad I've gone back to a bagged vacuum.

Lets put it this way - SEBO in the UK are always winning "Which" best buys. They are about the most reliable vacs on the market, and their commercial models are highly regarded. Like all machines, even a SEBO can break down, but instances of this are much less than, say TTI machines like Vax in the UK.

Members of my family have also owned Orecks too, and my aunt swore by her Oreck XL, she thought is was very good, and it ran for years, before the power cable failed. The Oreck does have the advantage over the SEBO Felix in that its lighter to carry. But the Felix has two motors, which make it more versatile for hard floor use as well as carpets.
