Bag door Windtunnel Problems

I noticed that my Windtunnel's bag door will not stay shut, no matter how hard I try. I had this machine for a year, and I've noticed that this is now another flaw with the machine.

Fantomvacuumfan, vacman117, vacuumfreeke, bagintheback, fantomlightning, and fantomfan, do you know how to fix this? If not, should I scrap it and buy a new vacuum, while holding on to my Bissell?

I dont know for sure...

Since I am not a Hoover expert, but it would seem to me that it would be one of 3 things. Either the bag is not in right, and is preventing the door from shutting, the part that holds the cover on is wearing out/broken, or your not lining it up quite right. However, I could be wrong. I never had a bagged windtunnel, so I have no experience with them. Sorry.

The bag is in right, and I am lining the door right. It will not seal right, and it always comes open. The part that holds it didn't break.

I think my vacuum is starting to degrade.

If you need a temporary way to keep the cover on, you can use a rubber band. I use that when I can't get my dirt devil swivel glide's bag cover to close.

Well, I tried as hard as I could, it failed. I've had it with my Windtunnel. I'm taking a break from them.

The Windtunnel Supreme bagged door is the same as the Tempo bagged door. Now depending on your model, the final filter may be located on the outside of the machine or it could be located on the inside in a little compartment. Check your final filter and ensure that the filter is completely enclosed in its casing and that the filter door shuts properly/ filter encasement is pushed in all the way. Also check door gasket. There should be a gasket on the door perimeter inside of its recessed holder area. Ensure it is in place all around.

All Hoover Windtunnel bagged machines use the Type Y bag. Still a big bag but fits. I always form the bag sort of like a box. Then the top and bottom have to folded and stuck either way under on the bottom or deep in on the top. Push all sides of the bag deep inside the machine as well so that it has no chance of getting stuck in the door closure area. On the bottom of the bag door, are 2 prongs that stick down about 1/2" on either end. These prongs have a high breaking record!! Be careful with them. However, I've still been able to lock doors enough with them broken. The prongs are supposed to fit into the 2 notch sized openings that are shaped like the prongs in the recessed plastic housing support. The best way to shut the door, is angling the bottom in to line up the prongs inside of the grooves. Fit bottom prongs into the space, line up sides then push down and in on top quite firmly and bag door should have an audible scratching sounding snap. It's kind of sounds like rubbing plastic screech but then it snaps a little and moves in no further. When you let go, then push and tug gently on door from top, it should not come off but will have definite play. The loose play in the door once shut is fully taken care of by the vacuum cleaners suction. The entire door is pulled into the gasket firmly once vacuum cleaner is running. This is a Clean Air designed machine. Make sure pre-motor filter at bottom of bag cavity is always clean and in place.

Please let me know if this helps! I've changed many bags on Windtunnels, and Tempos. I have never used a Self Propelled Windtunnel, but I don't think that door style is much different from that of the Supremes as shown as blue model U5458-910 in picture below.

My previous post doesn't specify Brand New Bag!!!

Ok, how is the gasket, are the 2 prongs on the bottom broken off? From your response, I don't think you read my entire post!!! I never mentioned brand new bag, I mentioned the letter style and just that whenever re-installing bag door whether its a new bag, 1/4 full, 1/2 full etc. you need to ensure that the bag is pushed deep inside the compartment on all four sides. I always tuck bottom and top way under to fit.

As I'm sure you've noticed, Hoover doesn't leave a lot of room on the Windtunnel bagged upright series vacuums for the bag to fully expand. In comparison the Hoover Elite hard case has a fair bit of room!! Its quite easy to install a bag and door on a hard cased Elite style upright.

I apologize if my previous post sounds like one of those: "Microsoft for Dummies" style books but its harder to describe with out a video, and I don't have video capability. I've used many non self propelled Windtunnel uprights over the years and am quite aware that installing and removing those bag doors can be a P.I.T.A!! I posted the exact procedure that I use for installing minus checking all of the parts.

This is about the best help I can offer with out actually seeing the machine in person. I don't know if maybe the Hoover Factory machining wasn't as good on this one and screwed something up on the door or body. Maybe the door got bent or has a hairline crack that is present barely visible!! I don't know!! But any issues I've ever had installing a Windtunnel door are mentioned in my first post!!

Well thanks. But the plastic latch that holds the door in, one of them broke. I'm not taking it to the vacuum store for repairs.
